Description
New York Institute of Technology School of Education presents Judith Sloan in a multi-media performance based on Warren Lehrer and Judith Sloan's critically acclaimed book: Crossing the BLVD: strangers, neighbors, aliens in a new America. (W.W. Norton & Co.)
Discussion to follow the performance with some of the people interviewed for the project including Camilo Perdomo from Colombia, and immigrant and refugee teenagers, who participate in EarSay's youth arts program including Linkai Jiang and Hadeel al-Hindawi, from Iraq.
"Immigrant life as told in the intimate, rich, comic, ironic and sad stories so often seen but not
heard in America’s big cities." The Washington Post
"Hail, Judith and Warren, for making [Crossing the BLVD], a new art worthy of the new America that is quietly and not so quietly being born again out of the lives and imaginations of its newest immigrants. You combine the art of the story-telling, the book, the visual, and the sound of voices, to create a true Whitmanesque vista of our infant century." Andrei Codrescu, poet, novelist, radio commentator.
"Crossing the BLVD is a remarkably beautiful, lovingly put together example of bottom-up journalism." Amy Goodman, Democracy Now!
