The only people I can name offhand in this category would be Annie Lebovitz and Ed Colver.

You know everybody has seen a lot of Annie's portraits of 60's and 70's and 80's era rock stars and pop stars.

Ed Colver's photographs were first only of the Los Angeles punk scene. He's interviewed in that film American Hardcore, I believe.

Ed Marshall, his stuff is her on AfroPunk all over the place!
Since you're talking about mixing various forms of expression. How about digital photography and oral history?

Days with my father is a story of a 90 year old male widow who has no short term memory and goes through the grief of hearing about his wife's death every time his son tells him.

The way the photos are presented is a great form of interaction.
