AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

I have just started getting into the screamo scene, and I wanted to know if any other afro punks are also into it. Usually, when I metion screamo to my black friends that do like punk, they think i am talking about that pre-packaged stuff they give you at warped tour like Alesana, or even underoath. I'm talking about la quiete, funeral diner, indian summer, and anasarca or even blood brothers . I guess I am just wondering if you guys are into that,

I also want to know if there are black girls like me that are in screamo bands, or if I am the only one!

Recommendations Please!!!!!!

Screamo, like Emo, has prettymuch been discredited as a ligitimate & respectable genre. There's NOTHING good that can be said about the stuff.
Screamo...aesthetically didn't DMX already do this?

Check out Bearvsshark. The vocalist, switches betweens, barking and singing and randomly screaming. Their music is kinda hard to place. I guess maybe they'd be considered post-hardcore.

I honestly can't think ov a more useless, more un-called for genre than "post hardcore".
I agree. But I think these genre titles just make it easier than saying.. "well this band has a little bit of punk a dash of metal but it also kinda has an art rock vibe but then there's a song with a piano in it and some Fugazi-ish stuff.." I just say post hard core. As in some unnameble genre that came after hardcore but is definately not 100% hardcore.

screamo has it's place...and to me it just means kids are still pioneering music in our country at a healthy speed, whether I like every little genre or not
You know, when I first posted this question, I had no idea how serious the underground diy culture of post hardcore/screamo/emotional hardcore(which gets skewed for the pop emo thats outthere) was, or the people. At that time, the only post hardcore I was privvy to was at the drive in, and what ever was forced fed to me by hot topic and warped tour. Now, years spent meeting new friends and enjoying the music, I have some great suggestions that I hope everyone who reads this post will be open to checking out.

******AGE SIXTEEN (best post hardcore band in years. seriously. no joke) - actually DC got it going on with their stuffzz check it outt!!!!!!

These bands are seriously out there doing stuff for themselves. Truly DIY. They are in a international movement of greatness. All of the bands are powerful!

as for the genre debate, I think everyone should chill out when it comes to notating what band is what yes genre names are stupid butt. Let bands call themselves what they want to call themselves. I feel that its best for the musician and the listener if we leave it that way!
Used to go see these bands back in the day in SF at friend's houses:

Funeral Diner
Ruhaeda
Portraits of Past
Saetia
Jerome's Dream
Racebannon
Majority Rule (more "emo violence" but same kinda shit)
Omega Man
The Assistant
Reversal of Man (more "emo violence" but same kinda shit)

but one of my favorite records of this era was Early Grace's only 10".
Jerome's Dream are my favorite. I even like that "presents" album (hell, I heard it first. . )

but even more than them, I like Between Two Theives.
I don't know if they ever released anything, but they had 5 songs on mp3.com back in 2001 or something, before that site shut down and it's some of the best shit I ever heard.
(i will send you songs, hit me up on last.fm)

The only classic skrams(I assume people started calling it this, after the media stole the title "screamo" and pinned it on bands liek My Chemical Romance) band i got to see live before they broke up was Pg.99, and they were sweet.
