I freaking love the parable books. Her short story collection blood child has some great short stories in it too as well as some essays about writing and about how black people need to read sci fi.

I also really liked Kindred.
i love the begining of liliths brood. im actually a science fiction writer. check this site out.

Oh and of course I like Fledgling also. If you haven't read it you should!
and today i had a customer at work named Octavia Butler. :-/
I'm reading fledgling now and i really like it. I got turned on to that book because i love vampire novels :) I was always thinking what about black vampires though since they seem to be non existent in many of these books.

I do want to read all of her other books, but i love that she's a black women in the sci-fi genre of writing because that's mostly what i like to read. I was so happy when i found out about her.
I just heard about her yesterday when I was watching a special on that new show True Blood. I'm going to check out Fledgling but and if I like it I might check some of these others out too.
Yeah my sister turned me on the the parable books a few years back. I read sci-fi mostly and really liked them. Just wondering, which ones should I read next? I'm not much into vampire novels. Maybe I'll take a look at the Seed to Harvest books?
Love Octavia Butler, one of my heroes.
I read Parable of the Sower and really liked it...I can't wait to read Parable of the Talents.
i really liked parable of the sower, but couldn't get into parable of the talents as easily
I've read everything she's written. Hate to say it but she's the only black scifi writer I have read that was worth reading.
who are the black male writers?
