AFROPUNK

... the other Black experience

a book about West Coast rap ( DJ Quik, Snoop, NWA...) and french bands also doing it

LAxagone, la West Coast en France do you get it? I know the guy who did the documentary, JLtismé (from the famous act Tout Simplement Noir, one of the pioneers of this kind of G rap/ Gfunk influenced wave, with EJM, Ministere AMER, Expression Direkt, Reciprok, Yazid...)... I intend to do a book about this scene, and also reach the source, the main influence, Californian artists who created it.. so far Prodeje ( SCC), Dresta, and DJ True Justice from the Guerilla funk recording team replied.. I also may reach Kokane.. so if people know and want to help, I'm here...

Myspace will be a great resource. A lot of artists still use this network. Another aspect you could explore is the popularity of lowriders and black and gray tatooing in some J
You should also try to contact Project Blowed folks, they are right in the Leimert Park area near here, before you hit the Westside of Los Angeles. A lot of folks came through this collective, Aceylone, Mikah Nine, etc etc. There is a place that has shows near there called Kaos Network, and I am sure if you go onto the projectblowed.com website, you can hit up a lot of those folks through there. I'm told the men who run things there are very accesible to talk to any artists and help them along however they can do so. Good luck with your book! I want to read that, too!!
Aunt Rosenda ( ok hope you don't mind I call you "Aunt") thanx for the info BUT people do that mistake, it's not (the whole) rap done in the West Coast but only rap in the vein of NWA, Above The Law, (early) E 40, Spice 1, bands like Jurassic 5, Digable Planets, even Souls Of Mischiefs, Pharcyde ( I love that act especially the song and video for "Passing Me By") aren't what i search for.. I want the 80ies funk, Zapp, rick james, P funk influenced rap --> G funk style...anyway i will reach these guys, Project Blowed, they might intrest me for something else, big thanx again.. and Egret Compound, I indeed use myspace, that's how I got in touch with Prodeje of SCC, Dresta & BG Knocc Out and some others... I even might hit someone bigger this evening, just need to practice my spoken English ( the written one is almost ok :-) ).. anyway I thank both of you...Rosenda, the book might be in French ( maybe I put some English samples of interviews, don't know yet)...and Happy New year 2010!! About the lowrider topic, well if anyone is ready to teach me a bit about that culture, why not as long as it relates to my main topic ( which is the influence of Afro American art on Black French one, and especially the funk transmission)...
Well I may have opportunities to talk with some PE members (as experts about Us rap, and knowing something about the French rap scene) and this Wednesday I interviewed Daddy V, from Compton ( he was in Paris), he executive produced a compilation called "LA French Connect" featuring Kokane, MC Eiht, Badazz, RBX, Tha Chill, Aelpeacha, JLtismé and others rappers from California, and France, especially Paris and suburbs)
I like replying to myself :-) Rosenda I went on the Project Blowed website, and myspace page, there's no contact or anything.. BUT I learnt something very interesting, a friend who is a hiphop expert had told me about a band called The NONCE, and it seems this band is related / worked with people from Project Blowed...

My other comment got cut off and I don't remember what I was going to say.

Good luck with your project.
Thanx! I got in touch with DJ True Justice and Conscious Daughters, I also wrote to Stan The Guitar man, Celly Cel, Spice 1, Shock G, Money B...I think I wrote to Brotha Lynch Hung too but why not doing it again...About the books, I have Jerry Heller's one, and "Have Gun Will Travel" but I think I shouldn't read too much, in order to avoid " borrowing" :-)...
replying to myself... WC and DJ Quik performed last week in Lyon ( France) I was there.. but impossible to reach Mr David Blake unfortunately
And still replying...as MC Eiht, Badazz and Daddy V tour France (and Europe) in June ( a gig in Helsincki, a gig in Barcelona and 6 or 7 dates in France), I may meet and greet not only them but also Nima from Dubcnn.com website, another great step for the book
I was happy and lucky (really.. I won't relate the story but...) to meet and interview MC EIHT.. he was tired but answered everything ( unfortunately I couldn't really do a long interview as people would close the venue) and Rosenda, I just received a mixtape devoted to The Nonce
got contributions from Black C ( RBL Posse) and might get Big Prodeje of South Central cartel as well

still trying to investigate G funk realm...and had the honor to talk to Big Hutch aka Cold 187um from ABOVE THE LAW, by phone
