... the other Black experience

A judge has rejected Madonna's request to adopt a second child from Malawi because of a requirement that prospective parents live in the southern African nation for at least 18 months.

Should Madonna be aloud to adopt a second child from Malawi?

Why was she aloud to adopt David so rapidly?

Is growing up in the west really the best?

Your thoughts & opinions are welcome.

It's funny! I'm sure plenty people would have something to say if a rich african lady wanted to adopt a kid fom over here who was in poverty -e.g baby p. Same old same old - stereotypes!!
I was wondering if the same would apply if it was say a rich Kenyan lady that wanted to adopt her? You can't really blame Maddy for thinking she would swoop in, get the girl and take her for Ice Cream later that day. She did it before. She's contributed alot of money to the city, so I guess she thinks that gives her a pass to circumvent laws in that country for her own gain.
Rich white people been adopting children from other countries for decades. I'm sure it goes in waves of popularity (remember the people adopting Korean babies back in the 70's?). Growing in the west ain't always the best.....depends on what life you are living. People forget, we got folks suffering and living jacked up lives here in the U.S.

Actually, I am glad to read that Malawi has that requirement. I mean think about it, that is a basic matter of respect. You should know something about life in the country from which you want to adopt that child from, at least the basics of the history and the culture and the traditions and education and all of that. And rules are rules in any country, in regards adoption by someone outside of your country. They should apply to any family or individual wanting to adopt, whether they are regular middle class people or rich people.
It doesn't matter who adopts a child..... as long as that person can provide a better life I don't see the issue.

I work pretty close to family court here in East LA - I see the little kids over there waiting to be adopted/fostered and want to swoop them all up. You don't need to travel across the globe to find kids in need.

Believe it or not, it's a lot easier to go overseas and adopt than here. I know a couple of people who went to Russia and China to adopt. One couple I know has been trying to adopt for 15 years!
This has always been my issue. From the get go. I mean you want a black child so bad, take your butt to any big city and there are hundreds of them waiting to be adopted. But NOOOOOOOOOO they have to travel all the way across the globe to a remote village to get a kid. Granted the kid in the remote village needs help too. Isn't it an AFRICAN proverb that says it takes a village to raise a child? How is it possible there are any orphans in that culture anyway?

I also often wonder if it's harder to adopt babies than say school age kids too in the US.
