AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

I figure this is the best spot for this thread. We had somthing like it on the old boards.

Right now I'm diggin':
Anime: Robotech:Shadow Rising.
If your like me (prolly not...but) your all kinds of into robot anime. This Movie is really important as it's the latest movie in the Robotech saga starting at the end of the Scott Bernard chapter. This flick was 30years in the making so, needless to say I bought it special order

Manga: Xenon
This comic was a VIZ/Eclipse title from the 80's. It's kinda like Guyver but waaaaaay more violent and bloody and just cooler in general

OVA : Samurai Champloo. I can't get enough of this show. There's also no point in talking about it since most folks already have a good idea about it.
I'm also digging another OVA series though: Space Adventure COBRA. This show is fucking great!!!! It's like watching a show dedicated to Han Solo only it's got MORE imagination to it and way more titties. Fucking AWESOME!!

Worthwhile anime is among the things I’d like to have sitting around the house within the next few years, for myself and for my kids. So, I’m taking notes, here.

I’m going to give FLCL another chance, I guess. An associate of mine tried to turn me on to it, back when it was apparently airing on CN. I don’t remember being wowed, and I didn’t watch all the episodes she lent me, but then again I kept a cloudy head back then and was probably unaware of half the things that went on in the first episode. Heard enough good things about it, though, so I’ll hunt it down.

Realizing it’s going to be a pain in the ass hunting down stuff I’ve kept on my mental list for the last few years. Never saw any of Cowboy Bebop; I just remember a rather pretensions friend owning the soundtrack, and he felt the need to justify liking the music. Sounded like it was worth watching, in my opinion, but I was too busy working and schooling and shit like that.

Didn’t know CN aired G Gundam, either. Anybody seen it? I know I’m going to come across more chaff than I care to, but like others have said, I’m out of the loop to the point where I don’t mind looking into things I might’ve overlooked before. I still remember going to ComicCity.com in middle school, just to read about Rurouni Kenshin, FY, First of the North Star, and some other stuff I never saw. Definitely want to track down a Ranma 1/2 set for my son. Might even give the Slayers (and other titty-anime) a try; the soundtracks to a lot of those piqued my interested, back in the early 2000s (ain’t ashamed to admit it).

It's cool. :D I've been kept in a closet, deprived of light and occasionally fed. Saw a few episodes of Bebop - enough to like the series and the sound, and then I went to university and these past 6 years have been school with sprinklings of anime. Since Bebop came on late TV I just caught it in that format because I love love love syndication and will choose that over watching it back to back streaming off the internet (I love being surprised with a new episode one week and a repeat I've seen a billion times another week). Yea ... and now it is not in syndication. Don't really know exactly what I am waiting for in regards to finishing watching that series. Guess I wanna make it special and guess I am afraid to see every episode and thus not be surprised by the show anymore.

Yea, I'm not a fan of new school anime. I'm highly interested in checking old series, even if they may be cliched. Perhaps I should check more OVA's as after checking he wiki page on em' they seem to be free from some o the plagues of anime.

Bebop is awesome anything scored by Yoko Kanno is pretty good. I thought AS was still showing it as a part of their anime only on Saturday schedule. I hate them for that. I hate the anti-anime people winning.
G Gundam is my favorite Gundam series. It's different than all the others because it focuses on a more martial arts style of combat. Still has melodramatic backstory, tho.

FLCL changed my view of anime much like Rurouni Kenshin did. I also own the Pillows CD [FLCL soundtrack] and I love the Pillows.

I've never really thought about letting a kid see Ranma 1/2 it's not really as kiddie as it's made out to be- by Japanese standards.
A lot of stores sell the series, season 1 is hard to find.

So. ..I don't know what this is but it comes up every time I look for Jackie Chan's old movies. Turns out the Japanese were crazy about his early stuff. . ...anyway first I thought it was a version of Lupin then I noticed some kung fu and lyrics about monkey style. It has titties and sexual sight gags so that's enough for me.

Plus the song is catchy.
Yep. That does count.

i need something more FLCL(Fooly Cooly) league haven't seen anything that original since.. well Ever.
i need that nice blend creativity and off the wall-izum.
you guys should check out Wet Moon.
one of the characters looks exactly like Tamar-Kali.
not a bad story line ether.

Holy Shit!! you brought up WetMoon!
I dunno, I bought a few issues. I thought it was bit soft and to the lesbian college fantasy...... then I found out it was written by a straight white dude....:(
FUGAZZIO!!!
I liked Ponyo too, but I thought there was a lot people wouldn't get. I liked the old school animation (all hand drawn) and the scenes where the mom is being chased by the waves was really scary in a way I didn't expect. I like all of Miyzaki's stories though.

Wow - I really dug Ponyo. Good story, the animation was excellent, the interaction between the ship captain husband and his wife, the old folks in the retirement home had some great lines. What was it that folks didn't like - was it too vanilla?
I wanted to start this thread but, for some reason, I always feel weird starting threads so hats off to you Nick for having the cajones.

Right now I'm watching xXxHolic (Clamp + dark morality anime = my undying love), checking out the dubbed NANA (seen the subbed version years ago), the Hellsing OVA and Soul Eater.

I'm currently reading Kuroshitsuji, which I'm not getting what all the hype is about it. I think it might be the shouta and yaoi fanservicing. I really am not into either. I know, a girl who doesn't like shouta or yaoi? Shocking! Just finished reading Ludwig Kakumei by Kaori Yuki (my favorite manga-ka), Ouran, Planet Ladder, which should've ended with shojo-ai and it didn't and I was very disappointed, and Jack Frost (which was just as much of Hellsing ripoff as I was told) and I'm about to start Battle Nations Hetalia.

My favorites are The Earl Cain series by Kaori Yuki, Battle Royale, Pretear, Emma, Monster, Doll by Mitsukazu Mihara, Othello, Rose of Versailles (Oscar is my idol), Kino's Journey, Maria-sama ga Miteru, xXxholic and Sailor Moon (forever). I like dark and twisty, slower paced shows that tend to get philosophical, yuri with low fan servicing, anything set in the Victorian or Rococo era, and anything with female robots, assassins or solders as main characters.
I used to like shouta and yaoi but I feel like I grew out of it.

xXxHolic is something on my CLAMP list and I never finished the Hellsing OVA.

I know another girl that likes Soul Eater.

I must say, Ghost in the Shell (both the two films & both seasons ov the show) is probably my favorite non-hentai anime ever.
I've been trying to finish Gurren Lagaan. I love that show. Made by the same creators of FLCL another one of my favorites.^_^

I've also started watch Avatar...if you even consider that to be anime.....
I didn't know the same creators made Gurren Lagaan- that totally explains the Cutey Honey parody.

Pretty avatar, btw.

I don't watch Avatar but I joined the anti-white-washing of main characters in the movie version.
