If you put both bands together in their prime--and I'm old enough to have caught both at their best--the Bad Brains would kick Living Colour's collective ass. If you're talking about pure musicianship, to a man Living Colour is probably better. But in terms of the whole package--musicianship, lyrical message (there was so much conscious black stuff in their lyrics it's not even funny), stage show (in terms of stage show, only Angelo Moore of Fishbone could equal HR back in his prime, you'd hardly know the lethagic old man on stage now was once a maniac of a frontman), and again I'm speaking if we're looking at both bands at the top of their game...without a doubt it would have to be the 'Brains. They're also a much more influential band, you'll hear more bands say they were influenced by the 'Brains than you will Living Colour.
Hard choice but I gotta go with Bad Brains.
Bad Brains rule (minus the homophobia-masked -as-religion)!
Bad Brains no doubt; the originators to the fullest! Everything that they put out is on hit, even when Joseph I was singing with them. I like Living Colour too, but the only good album that they put out was "Time's Up" Oh yeah, and even H.R's (w/Earl) solo albums is on point too.
BAD BRAINS for my vote, but VERNON REID would take DR. KNOW. (DUCKING TOMATOES)
Let me cast my vote again under the correct profile...

BAD BRAINS for my band vote...but VERNON REID would take DR. KNOW in a guitar duel. (Ducking Tomatoes once again)
Living Colour sucks period to compare them with the Bad Brains is a travesty..that's like comparing Kiss to the Eagles. I saw both Living Colour at the 9:30 club in DC. Corey from LV did a stage dive no one really expected it of course most of their fans wanted to see them because the rolling stones said they were the shit...when Corey did a stage dive everyone was like what the fuck as they moved out of the way luck would have it i caught his fat ass in his body glove dislocating my shoulder in the process I have hated the band and their lame fans from that day I wish i would have let him bust his ass. I've seen the Bad Brains numerous times they would leave Leaving Colour to shit in their pants after a show. Please anything that Vernon Reid can do Dr.know can do period...for those of you that don't know you better ask...they all will say Reid is over hyped like Joe Satriani
Man I'm amazed that this is even a topic. BAD BRAINS!!!!!! And they still hold it down on a underground tip.
if there ever a question of "who rocks harder" Band X or Bad Brains, that doesn't end in - Bad Brains (hands down)?
who rocks HARDER? bad brains. absolutely. no question about it. living color was/is musically and technically more skilled, but - the question is who's HARDER. hard lyrics, hard spirits, and hard old skool grooves. even their new music is HARD - like diamonds!
yes, yes & yes, but i can't really feel hr's solo albums

werd. one of the best all-time showmen in this whole scene is angelo moore (there's aspects of his show that i like better than HR especially the bari sax). that brotha lead the band, runs around, sings lead, sings harmonies, plays 10 instruments, & sweats his ass off - all after smoking with 10 BLUNTS in rotation. A BAAAAD MF!!
