Battle of the Soft Rock All-Stars!

Ok. TOTALLY not Afropunk, hard or heavy ....BUT they sure are easy to make fun of!

((Admit it, you like them.... in all of their sweet, syrupy, fruity, mellow goodness....or maybe you don't))

Kemet told me that there was a similar thread on the old AP forum. It kinda ties into the 'embarrassing songs' thread from a while back.

I'll go first (and probably last! lol). These two will be hard to beat....

Sorry, folks. The Carpenters were to soft rock what Ozzy Osbourne is to heavy metal. A smoother, more understated voice than Karen cannot be found in this world. What a loss.

^^^ wow we're up at the same time! Yes, I have vague memories of when she died of anorexia. I didn't even know what that was because I was only about 9 at the time. Sad.

^^^^^ Lesy: Yes, you're right! It's not rock at all! I just snuck that one in because it's just....so.... sappy. In fact, it might be the exact OPPOSITE of rock lol.

I think that I'll see more general,weepy, syrupy songs in this thread. Think of it as a natural progression of sorts.

(and yes. I saw them live a few times, etc.. Little Joey was my favorite because he was my age. I even got to meet them at a record signing once. Sigh. I was such a teenybopper.)

I grew up with all those Carpenter. Our choir teacher in our little neighborhood school taught us all the hits songs. *Sigh.*

That band had a ton of hits in the 70s. For some reason, the 80's soft rock hits really embarrass me. ;)

Seals & Crofts: Summer Breeze.

Somebody in junior high told me they rented a house in our neighborhood to write their album. ?

Lesy, there is also Gino Vanelli. My sister just loved him and him music. She went with her husband to see him live in the 80s and they got to meet him backstage. She was so happy.

I went through the 80s with all that NKOTB stuff. I think I kind of blocked it out, cause my niece who is 30 now and all her friends were SO in love with them. Good Lord the many hours I had to listen to them at every corner. They were cute and catchy, though, THE RIGHT STUFF !!

Hold Up, Wait a Minute!!! Y'all gotta back up off Gino Vanelli!!! This cats had some badass tracks!! I kid you not! Although he did make 1 or 2 sappy one that seem to be all the non-GV fans know... The remainder is damn-near JAzz Fusion! They hit kinda hard!
