AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

afropunk 2013

No no no not the ones who kill themselves. Heuaheuaheua.

But seriously. You know the website with all those "alternative" girls getting naked? Where are the black girls? I know that not a lot are going to enter but we're definitely out there and I heard a good amount enter but don't get put in. Whats up with that? Or am I not searching hard enough? I've only seen a few and well...they had lighter skin tones (Not that that matters but you know..)

Sure I know it may seem like a stupid question, but with them being all "out of the norm" shouldn't they include what people don't expect. People must really just be picky these days.

I applied to be a SG and was pretty much told that I'm too mainstream. Sucks, though. I wanted to be one for years.
You were told you were "TOO MAINSTREAM" to be a SG?!?! That's like someone being kept out ov the military for being too patriotic!
yeah that's pretty fucking lame. but there are people on AP who are just as guilty for accusing people for not looking 'punk' enough. i'm over stereotypes.

Yea, they spouted some crap about not enough visible tats and piercings from all angles. Like I say all the time- I'm too mainstream for punk and too punk for mainstream.

Yeah, SG is in Portland, OR. I've seen plenty of the SG girls at bars, on Hawthorne St., in general around town when I lived there. There weren't many non-white women that would qualify for SG (most being asian or pinay) to begin with and not everyone knows about SG or would want to be online like that.

Might be better if it was "Black" SG out of L.A. or New York. Or advertise well online and get some people.
AP has the most suicide girls that aren't white that I've seen, and I'm sure there are many more than I've noticed posting on the forums.
I don't get why they chose "suicide girls" as the title for the site. I remember when it came out years ago and my white metal buddy had a constant hard on for it. It was an ok site. a little too mainstream though.
obviously since its so white.

its a fact that while white mainstream gets a billion hits black mainstream gets a hundred.

and while white alternative gets a million hits black alternative gets ten.

The hard honest work and effort (and not that pop-bullshit from association) is always going to be in the black alternative. we're like the x-men of the scenes...
It's so white because there are so many more white girls that are "alternative" that anyone else...

But so what? Black alt = double alt.
Maybe the solution is to make a women of color alt site - and make it successful. Somehow.
Black King magazine catered to black men and had some success but I think they went under - I'm gonna guess they couldn't figure out how to monetize the online version and the print version didn't sell. I guess that's the key, but it also speaks to really finding the paying market - not just "the market", this includes the advertisers.

There are, like, three black Suicide Girls I've seen on there. There are more likely candidates on AP just normally. SG didn't start out nekkid if I recall, they were more pin-up pictures and partial nudes were set up for subscribers and now it's a bit different.

That girl started making $10,000 a month pretty quickly in subscriptions. She's "just" a photography major that wanted to use photography (naturally) to pay off her student loans, if I recall what she said about starting the site.

I think it can be done, but I wouldn't bet on most subscribers being "black". In any case I think it should have black, asian, and hispanic women primarily - just 'cause they aren't getting the same exposure. But SG isn't just about pictures, the women have chat schedules and keep up on their blogs, et al, now it seems the draw are the hot, skinny, inked women but the lasting appeal is that it's more an alt community site than anything.

This is a much needed list of all those Darker-Pigmented ladies that we all have troubles coming across. So next time someone asks if there are any "Black" SG's, send this list!

There in a similar list in the Plus-Sized SG group with pics of each one..I'm afraid I'm much too lazy to do that..I'll try that later..like in a year...but it's alphabetical! ((Someone should do a hopeful list!))

Another factor besides the ones that are mentioned is that many African Americans are more socially conservative than they think. This is true for many minority groups. There is a thought in your mind that may be very small, but still doesn't want to reflect badly on your ethnic group or your extended or immediate family. It's not always a bad thing.
lol @ blasian as a stage name. smh.

there not sg girls but there somthin good
Seems like a lot of nude photos of slender women. What exactly are the people who are interested in there being black suicide girls wanting? Do you all want pictures of black women on this site or to see pictures of black women taken in the same style?
