AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

afropunk 2013

Hello, my name is Chris, but my performance name is Lightning Pill. I play keyboards, a little  ukelele (still learning guitar), and I sing. In a lower register, my voice sounds a bit like a blend of Morrissey, Adam Green and Stephin Merritt (off Magnetic Fields). In a higher register, something close to John Darnielle (of Mountain Goats) or Perfume Genius. It all depends on the genre being taken on.

I also write poems and lyrics from time to time. Topics run the gamut from alienation to music to love to various other things.

One of the reasons I came to afropunk is not just to comment upon the great music I've found here so far, but in hopes that I can bond with some musicians (or friends) here in Massachusetts. My musical interests range from electronica to punk to anti-folk to space rock to psychedelic to anything experimental, really. (My ideal thing is to try and mix anti-folk with space rock, but I'll work out some musical details once a band forms.)

So, if anyone is looking for a singer or a song writer (or at least someone willing to join the band), I"m up for grabs. Hope to hear from you soon.

P.S.: Anyone looking to make music outside of Massachusetts and is looking for the same things, perhaps we can try it Postal Service-style and send files back and forth. Whatever feels good
