This might get more response in the music section.

I like classical music, but I'm not knowledgeable about it. Do you have any recommendations for super melancholy stuff with a lot of harmonic minor passages full of violins and cellos?
I like classical music and yes switch this over to the music section.

Grew up listening to a lot of romantic and classical era music... my grandmother had her first born learn how to sight read music before learning to read period. lol... too bad for my mom and me we didn't get the same treatment. Got more into Baroque on my own. I don't know much though and my ear isn't really trained.

Opera that's super melancholic w/ minor passages full of violins and cellos...?
Henry Purcell - Dido's Lament/When I am Laid to Rest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_50zj7J50U) ...has to be one of the most depressing and gorgeous songs ever. lol.

Opera that's more beautiful than melancholic and maybe w/ minor passages...?
Jacques Offenbach - Barcarolle/Belle nuit, o nuit d'amour (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymaRQO3) ...gorgeous.

Not an opera piece... minor, melancholic, and beautiful.
Tchaikovsky - Barcarolle (June) (originally a piano piece and is widely known as such--but there are a few orchestral versions/interpretations w/ violins and cellos-- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0NOc0Pzo0M and when I'm up for it one day I'll track down an amazing version by a cello ensemble).
Really tho if you're into cello I think the best classical record I've gotten in a long while is Han-Na Chang's Vivaldi Cello Concertos which came out in 2008 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fYDZikPixI).
Yes I'm a fan of classical music. I like the dark classical music though.
really i love super expressive songs like queen of the night where she's super mad and hitting high F's, and im a huge sumi jo fan. she has such a pretty voice. i also like angela gheorghiu she has a beautiful voice as well. My favorite opera would have to be tosca. and my fave classical song would have to be sonata pathetique - beethoven.

Thanks for all the reccomendations, LY.
I really enjoy Zappa's orchestral compositions. Also, Igor Stravinsky, too.
I lurveee opera.I also sing classically in a choir :) we travel internationally to share our dopeness
I like Classical music, though I probably couldn't tell you the history. Big fan of Bartok, Mahler, Dvorak. Been to some concerts; usually a bit stuffy for me; but then again, I'm there to enjoy the music.
I actually study the stuff! I am learning to love opera a lot. I feel like I am my most liberated vocally when I sing classical.
