... the other Black experience

I was i guess you can say privelaged to have a discussion with a group of hispanic women. Some identified with African roots while others did not. The one thing they did agree on was how they felt that were a prize as a female. But not to their males, african america, west indian black men. Female after female had a story about how black men praised them for their "good" hair and their pretty skin. And although many of them were my complexion they admitted that they felt better than black women and mainly because of what black men have put in their heads. What was the saddest part, was that the african american and west indian women could not say the same. Yet, they had stories of how their black men made them feel like they were lucky to have a black man it is worst if you black man has some type of success or degree. It hurt me because I feel like this also. So I want to hear what my brothers have to say about this.

Arianna, if you have "good hair" and skin, what do white people have? Hmmm...

Where oh where are El Machetero and DJ Ceiba when need them to school our poor misguided Latina sister? Pobrecita...
Good hair, good skin...

Dimes, every last one. Always a pleasure to see Ms. Badu, and the second sista from the top, Good Lawd! Good hair and skin indeed.

A lot defines what makes beautiful beautiful and it has been perfected by civilizations via aesthetic practices for centuries on end. My personal view is that I am a die-hard fan of African style, wether you be dark, light, tan, whatever. The problem black people run into is that they live in a straight hair society in the Americas.

A woman with straight hair fits the "typical" category. A curly hair woman with straight hair fits the "normal" category. A curly hair woman with an African style fits the "gorgeous" category. A straight hair woman with an African style, "exotic".

You have to admit that being an African, experienceing straight hair is kind of erotic -- just like how it is for non-Africans who hook up with us. an or woman, they usually like the texture of or hair or the satin-like feeling of our skin... but they usually won't say it in public (unless you travel to the far east where there are few of us).

The problem for me lies in the media. There is nothing that regularizes the beauty of African males or females. We're always hyper erotic or exotic so we dude always have "huge dicks" and women always have "huge butts" and when you don't fit that they just look at you sideways. I've heard plenty of black women say that they enjoyed most of running their fingers through some straight guys hair when they were in a relationship with one. Or how "soft their skin was."

I believe it and I don't knock em for it...

But on the note of chiding your afro-female mate about "having" a guy like yourself, that's just some chauvinist bullshit. A relationship is about reciprocation. Put a fucker like that in the doghouse... cause hes already stooping low. Other chicks may want to do a "brotha" but they usually aren't in any hurry to take back home to the folks lest they're desperate or hes desperate... or somebody's really rich or talented.
Yes, the differences are fine and novel. Like I've always found eastern European women attractive as white women go. But my preference is usually for the shades, textures and styles of the sisters shown. And they're ALL 'good', better yet great.
I would let her use me she is sooooo fine.

Well... those women have some nerve.
This is a very sad thing to hear, but you should be feeling down about it.
There are some things that women of other races have that we don't, and many things that we have that other races don't. Does not make them better than us in any way, shape or form. That was only the men that they have been with opinions. Trust me, not all of our men feel that way.

Sometimes I do feel a bit down about why things can't be the way that they are, so I do understand your pain, but I keep my self preoccupied so that I don't have to feel down about petty little things like that. LOVE yourself, and the opinions of others won't matter.

I love our uniqueness as a culture.
We have amazing full lips, noses, curves, unique hair texture and even more than that. I appreciate all of these features in us. =)
