AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

I cant' tell you how many people (especially black folks), who are waaaaaaaay into conspiracy theories.

"You haven't read the protocols of zion?"

...You know that's a really interesting book. Supposedly some guy stole minutes from a group of rabbis. Yep, these rabbis left their plans for world domination just layin' around.

"David Icke Alex Jones"...Snore.

"9/11 was a controlled demolition, jet fuel doesn't burn blah blah blah"

So let me get this straight...There were demolition teams who were financed by the U.S. government to blow up American citizens?  "The only way three men can keep a secret is if two of them are dead"

"Skull and Bones"

Its a frat.

"Just look the back of a 1 dollar bill, the illuminati etc etc".

The illuminati. They're so secret, that they openly advertise their existence.

"Alex Jones"

How man DVDs has this guy made?

Meh, to each his own with that stuff. All I know is that NWO stuff is retarded/contradicting as all hell. I doubt it'll ever happend.

Plus the protocols of zion is fictional.
i wonder if black ppl are more susceptible to conspiracy theories though? i don't think that'd be the case... y'know what kind of suck though, people who were paranoid about the FBI stalking them for being activists were actually right but were written off as paranoid conspiracy theorists... and most still would downplay how the FBI/cointelpro infiltrated and corrupted black power and progressive national, international, and local movements of old.

lack of adequate education could be the reason why black folks are more susceptible to conspiracy theories. I mean honestly, some black folks on this board could have an intense dialogue about the effects of slavery, black codes, jim crow etc. But do you think the average 20 yr old kid could? Probably not.

Being disenfranchised from the rest of America, treated like outsiders and outright lied to for so long has something to do with it. Most blacks cannot afford hope for a better future (this includes education- notice how I said "hope"), sad but true, living in a system you cannot understand lends itself to these kinds of thoughts/delusion. Because of this knee-jerk reaction to our position on the totem pole, I consider many psuedo afrocentrics and porkchop nationalists to be "conspiracy nuts" as well. It's like a ven diagram and the two parties meet.
i suppose this is a bit of the same thing w/ the junk science and hoodoo that some scared black african men take to heart when they rape little girls/virgins with hopes to cure their AIDS.
...or that guy in the other thread who raped his own daughters in pursuit of a purer bloodline for the coming end times.

so, really, should our reaction be "meh., to each their own"? apparently not.

but seriously i don't know if it's a lack of education or a willing disdain for reality (or the grasping for something to make sense or solve their fucked up situations in a way that makes sense to them--a way that's way too simple or perfect) which causes these myopic assholes to believe and do whatever it is they do (from yelling at ppl on street, abducting children, keeping their daughters as sex slaves, or mass murdering their followers...whatever).
I have heard some crazy conspiracy theories from my extended family. The classic one was from a few years ago when one of my cousins told me Bush II had meetings with aliens. My response was "What could we even do about it if it was true?"

On the flipside, when you look at things like the Tuskeegee experiment, the aforementioned COINTELPRO program, and redlining some of the conspiracy theories don't sound so far fetched. How about the Iraq war? Majority of the terror suspects were from Saudi Arabia but we storm Baghdad? Offshore detention centers where the Geneva convention is not adhered to sound like something from GI Joe, but they were also real. How about JFK?
I think escapism is a huge part of it just because everyone has some form of escapism creeping in their brain. i have a huge thing with escapism (as is probably painfully obvious presently) as it fueled my entire childhood and I think a lot of people get stuck in this "perfect reality" to replace the other.
that crap is annoying imo. but i guess everyone has reasons why they do believe it...i still think it's a little wacky. maybe it's paranoia...

Good point.

Let me elaborate. The conspiracy theories you mentioned actually have some weight to them (Documented evidence, whistle blowers, etc). Way more than the whole David Icke (reptilians in government?), illuminati, etc.

The reason conspiracy theories upset me so much is that in those movements are people who shut themselves off from the rest of the world. I have a relative who is into the whole a Illuminati thing just a little too much. I bet if they were to put their time and energy into something useful they could possibly make something of themselves...OH, well.
"As for the question that blacks may be more likely to be pulled into conspiracy theories definitely hits at lack of education, i.d. lack of proper information, which allows one to come to an informed logical conclusion on a given subject."

Hm. Good point. I don't think it's because "people are uneducated" which is a nice way of saying stupid and below a certain standard of living, I think it's because a lot of disinformation is out there, sometimes purposefully and other times there's no information. We've been lied to a lot and I can see why people wouldn't trust things. Especially people who've been 3rd and 4th rate citizens in the recent past. It's just not being put in peoples' hands whether they be white, black or whatever. Intentionally censored information and revisionist history is the bulk of it.

I wonder about the conspiracy stuff sometimes, but you have to have a balance. Sometimes the NWO/Illuminati total control stuff can be a cop out on regular responsibility. "I can't make a difference because XYZ controls the world." Tell that to a Haitian on a raft or a guy that just came through a hole in the fence in El Centro.
I mean look at the New World Order conspiracy itself, that alone can lead to so many directions and whatnot. It's actually one of my favorite Conspiracies because of how broad it could be, who the secret cabal or world leaders are and what not.

The so called secret cabal could be:

Freemasons
World Bankers
Ex-Nazi officers from World War II
Anti-Christ
Aliens (greys)
Reptilians (Honestly, this makes no fucking since what's so ever.)
Foreign Troops from various countries
United Nations
Jews
Artificial Intelligence (super computer, sci-fi stuff)
and many, many more....

Plus, many fail to realize that alot of this conspiracy stuff, stems from many conservative, far-right Christian view on things, such as the UN/Anti-Christ thing.

""I can't make a difference because XYZ controls the world." Tell that to a Haitian on a raft or a guy that just came through a hole in the fence in El Centro."

Exactly, these people use something that's 99.9% of the time not even real or "going to happened very soon" as an excuse to why their life is so fucked up. It's sad.

And whoever says history doesn't go in cycles....well they are obviously a shill of the NWO.
