AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

I tried searching for a specific thread on this with "DIY" in the search bar, but nothing really came up (if there's an official thread, point me there as I'd love to read!). I also have no clue where to put this, so it fits here perfectly! This is a thread to post any DIY projects you've done or have heard of that are cool (and preferably how to do them!). It ranges from fashion to production, reconstruction, deconstruction, modifying, etc. :D

My contribution is this neat site on making your own instruments:

DIY Latex. Haven't tested this out myself, but it's a cool concept, no?

Make clothes, accessories, furniture.
If you wanted to build on of these guitars instead of paying 22K for a numbered replica...

http://www.stevebowden.net/ goes step by step, right down to distressing the electronics, cigarette burns, and the year on the quarter.

Whoa, nice.
I'm pretty sure this thread has just changed my life.

I will add Lifehacker: http://lifehacker.com/tag/diy/

A lot of their projects are pretty techie, some of which I want to attempt but haven't grown the balls yet...and some are just general fun. My favorites are of course the food and cooking related projects.
Wists.com (Type in tutorials and alot of DIY things come up, it's one of my favorite sites)

http://www.mookychick.co.uk/diy_ethic/ (There are some cute things in here including random tips and how tos)

And My other favorite
http://www.instructables.com/ (Sometimes hard to navigate but has tons of projects)
And How could I forget

my friend plays the uke.
we're starting up a band with uke, guitar, drums and accordion.
it's truly a fascinating instrument, thinner frets, 4 strings and like a new-born sized guitar.

Listen to Isreal Kamakeole- or Iz for short.

I looked up the Uke: "The frets are flat toothpicks, glued to the surface of the fingerboard." LMAO. That's right... no excuses! :]
i want to make a latex body suit now. they're so freaking expensive like 150 at the least.
