AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

With Street Fighter IV eating up sales, I have to wonder if we're seeing a rise in popularity in fighters again; even some of my more casual gaming homies were hyped for it. With King of the Fighters XII,
Blaze Blue, and that Castlevania Fighter coming down the pipes for the home systems, '09 maybe the year of quartering up again.

I'm digging SFIV, but I dont feel as though there are enough new characters. After the initial lackluster response to SF3's new faces, Capcom seemed to have played it safe with the roster. Too safe,
actually. It plays well, though, and thats important.

Got some hands-on with KOF XII--it looks to be the real deal. We seen the new makeover--I have to say it even looks better in person and it plays super-tight--like '98 tight mixed with a Capcom-like feel. The new offensive and defensive system adds a whole lot of new sexiness to the series.

Anything you guys looking forward to?

You know what's odd--I never really truly dove deep into the Alpha series. I owned Alpha 3 (I think it was on the PS1), but I moved on from it fairly quickly. I should revisit it soon. I really dug Alpha 2, tho.

It's funny, MvC2 is hailed as one of the best fighters ever, but it's one that I sorta kinda despise--it's way to manic for my tastes.

Have you played the Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the Northstar fighter? i'm not a huge fan of the Guilty Gear engine, but KOing my boys with Kenshiro's 100 Crack Fist = BLISS.

Just my opinion.

Initially I thought Street Fighter 4 was pretty cool, but then you play over and over and it gets old quickly. I miss the Alpha series and the speed of the Marvel vs. Capcom.

I love 2D fighters though, and I find it sad that they seem to be dying as a genre.

That's actually pretty righteous!

I'm assuming that quite a few cats here have a 360--how are fighting games online? I've yet to dabble in one, but I'd hate for lag to ruin my combo-osity.
SF4 is kool but its too easy to me....
Blaz Blue is a great game...chec it out..
Does Blaz Blue have the same play mechanics as the Guilty Gear series, or is there something new added to the mix?

And what up, BD!
Kinda......its plays faster.....
the combos are more interesting....
