AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

TODAY WHILE IN ENGLISH CLASS WE WERE GOING OVER SPIRITUALS N STUFF THEN HAD A CLASS DISCUSSION ABOUT HOW THE SONGS WERE SECRET MESSAGES ABOUT THE UNDERGROUND RAIL ROAD AND SO ON..... THEN WE GOT TO TALKIN ABOUT HOW SOME OF THE SONGS MADE THE SLAVES FEEL ........... HOW ABOUT A WHITE GIRL SAYS IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CLASS " WELL MAYBE THEY SHOULD GO BACK TO AFRICA!"  AFTER SHE STATED HER IGNORANT COMMENT SOME OF MY FELLOW BLACK CLASSMATES SHOWED SOME OFFENSE TO THE COMMENT................ AND THE TEACHER FELT THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE COMMENT SHE JUST LOOKED AT US CRAZY LIKE WE SHOULDN'T TAKE OFFENSE TO THAT...........  I FEEL THAT AS A RACE BLACK PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HERE FAR TOO LONG TO STILL BE TREATED AS UNWANTED GUEST....... i dont think i was born with enough middle fingers

yeah, fuck that stupid person.
also when spirituals talk about going home they probably mostly meant going to heaven or the place beyond (in addition to africa or just far the fuck away from the white oppressors). and how stupid is that person to think that slaves didn't just want to up and leave?
I remember my very snarky but very funny biology teacher taking 30 minutes of class time to express her horror that some girl on the Amazing Race thought that people just willingly up and left Africa to come here and that's how slavery got started. Then another 15 minutes about how it's not correct to say "why don't you guys have a flag of Africa in the foyer?" and why.

The best thing to do is remain calm and shut them down with logic in as few words as possible.
What a moron. Blacks have built this country in a lot of ways, and I bet that teacher/student would feel offended if one of the black kids told them to "Go back to Europe" or whatever. Some people honestly have a lot of nerve to be so damn ignorant.
tis the season
