AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

I have been natural since 2007 and it has been a journey exploring and getting to know my hair better. Being a Seattle girl, it is truly enjoyable to be able to swim and walk in the rain with no worries. I learned so much about how to take care of my hair and different style I could do with my hair.

But at times it has been tempting to go back to relaxers. But after chopping off my relaxed hair twice because I could not stand it's look and how limp it was, I never went back. But I always hated relaxers. I cried when my mom did my hair as a child and I hated when they called me 'tender headed.' as if it were some awful flaw. And I just wanted my hair to look like all my white friends and the women I saw on TV.But whenever I took out my braids and my hair was a huge main and I loved it, only to hate it once it was relaxed again... I digress

What kept me motivated to take care of my natural hair were youtube videos of natural girls as well as fashion pics I saw of beautiful women with my type of hair. I will add some pics that kept me inspired. Feel free to share your natural hair picks or picks you have found Hair Inspiring.
