AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

So i've had dreads for two and a half years now and I've rarely washed my hair. I do however clean it with witch hazel, or sea breeze.  In doing this I've noticed that my hair still gets dirty and the shea butter that I use to twist with stays in there for a long time. I'm looking for a method or product or concoction or anything to help me get clean!

Try Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar. This is what i do,
1 tablespoon braggs
1 cup water
Rinse your scalp with this and it will get rid of your build up. it also brings the PH of your hair and scalp back to its natural state.
This is all you really need to do but i always follow up with my homemade conditioners because i dont like the smell of the braggs.
Hope this helps!
cool! now could i use any apple cider vinegar? also how do you make your conditioner? I make my own lock twist with shea butter, aloe and fragrance. I'm thinking about using cocoa butter instead of shea though.

Yes you could use any Apple cider vinegar as along as you dont use the regular clear type.. thats a no no.
Im a cosmetic chemist so i make alot of stuff. Im coming out with a natural hair care line pretty soon! ( thats why i know so much about natural hair)
Instead of Aloe you could try flaxseed gel, its flake free
You could use coca butter. It is heavier than the shea, so if your hair is fine then i wouldn't suggest it you might want to whip it first though.
I was going to ask, When you say dirty, do you mean buildup or flakes?
build up not. like the shea butter stays in there and then i guess it attracts dirt from the air cuz when i wash my hair the shea butter i squeeze out is brown. I just take the aloe straight from the leaf cuz its cheap. but if i can find that stuff ill do it. thank you very much! you just solved an epic two year problem!

ahh okok .. try putting less shea butter and more aloe in your mis next time.. Or whip the shea so its lighter and will soak into the strands easier..
