AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

afropunk 2013

Hello AfroPunk, I'm Aezure. I just found this site today and I knew I needed to get an account. Obivously,  I'm a black kid who likes rock music, and I just find it really annoying when people say that you're "white" or "not black enough".  I say fuck 'em, I like what I like. Why should I be obligated to fit into a stereotype sheerly because of my genetics? It's illogical.

All that aside, I like to write songs, sing and play piano. I posted some of my original songs on my page.  I like mostly indie rock, stuff like Vampire Weekend, the XX, Arctic Monkeys, Two Door Cinema Club, etc. I also like underground/alternative rap, like Childish Gambino, Das Racist and select mainstream rap artists, like Jay-Z and Kanye West.

That's everything about me :)

Hey guys, I'm Sterling Infinity. I found out about this site from my friend who happens to be a rock lover like me.

I wish there was something like this when I was growing up. Very happy to be apart of this community and I look forward to making lots of friends on here.

Welcome aboard, buddy. Lucky for you, we all near fit into this category. :-)

Thanks :)

yeah, I hear ya.  Oddly enough, Rock n Roll music, just like Blues and Jazz and so on is 100% inherently Black.  The orginators of Rock n Roll like Chuck Berry, Bo Diddly, The Isley Brothers, etc. were all Black.  True indeed that white people stole rock n roll music.  That's a fair assertion.   But, that's OK.  Because in year 2012 we have more incredible Black Rock  n Roll artists than you can shake a stick at.  This is "Afro Punk".  This is Black people reclaiming what is theirs.

^ Amen, brother :)

Welcome to Afropunk! I've been a member here for a few years. Except for Arctic Monkeys, Two Door Cinema, and Das Racist I like those artists as well. You should check out Sleigh Bells (indie). Energetic music with guitars, bass, and rapping!

Dude. I love Sleigh Bells. I love "Kids"and "Infinity Guitars". How can you not like the Arctic Monkeys? O.O :'( lol
