AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Hello, extended family..

I just wanted to bring my thoughts here about this particular issue. I had a little bit insomnia and spent most of this early morning debating online in the comments section of the popular music/subculture blog Hipsterrunoff.com

The blog site is basically a satirical mocking of hipster subculture drenched in irony. I was a casual reader, Sometimes it was funny, more often it was NOT. The site creator, a guy that goes by the name of Carles always seem to diminish minorities, particularly blacks, and make it seem as if we are some annoying subspecies. He cloaks his white supremacy in "irony" and claims that those that get offended by his weekly race-bating remarks "don't get it" (his "satire") or are being too sensitive.

HR has a pretty decent following, indie artists Best Coast and Neon Indian have both denounced the site for its ignorance and prejudices. After getting FED-UP, I made a few post about the issue on my own blogsite posting all of vile responses in the comments section in response to HR's bigotry.

I wanted to share this with you guys and get your opinions and feedback. HR is popular enough that some of you probably have heard of it.

Most Of these purple pants wearing cornball hipsters who come from the backwoods Of Kansas or some shit are racist. Then they come invade my hood with their expensive ass thrift stores and fancy coffee shops that only cater to them right in the middle Of the ghetto cuz its trendy to live here. Okay this was just a gentrification rant.
LOL. But for reals, I feel you though. There is definitely a certain kind of culture clash for the "not-so-liberal minded" hipsters moving into the gentrified neighborhoods. Which is ironically where Carles lives, i believe (in Brooklyn).

I tried to read it. But reading their posts actually gave me a headache because of the grammar used. Its one thing for rich White kids to try and sound Black on the street but on the web too?!
Could you post the Hipsterrunoff.com to English translation. BTW It's cool you're putting them on blast but fuck them. Say your piece and then stop pushing traffic toward his site so he gets no revenue.
I didn't even understand or have the patience to tease through what was being quoted since the guy Carles posts under aliases in his comments sections and that's what was being copy and pasted. huge blocks of maybe irrelevant text w/ no emphasis is the definition of TL;DR.

but yeah... who cares about this guy? the bands that called him out and you do your piece and let him make a fool of himself... i guess.

and i dislike hipsters for the simple fact that sincerity is muddled and shit gets stupid and confusing. and these white people or ppl like cocorosie think they're being cutting edge when they're just being douchebags. *shrugs*

i feel u. i grew up in southside williamsburg/marcy. the hipsters were moving in the northside when i was in high school. when i go back i can see them slowly creeping over to the southside. i would hate for the character of the neighborhood to change into starbucksville. i was having a conversation with a friend today about my current neighborhood in bmore which has gone thru similar changes. she was born & raised here and is happy about the reduced crime, revitalized shopping district, etc. but it comes with a price. there's a neighborhood festival going on today which is really just hipsterfest. there's absolutely nothing that represents the neighborhood's history or culture. i bought my falafel and took my ass back in the house.

I feel for you folks in BK. Whenever I pass through Williamsburg, I have to laugh at the absolute ridiculousness these clowns possess. Oh, to be young, rich and white...and hip.
