... the other Black experience

How do you guys feel about the accomplishments of our president so far??????

It is the beginning of a new decade!!!! And undoubtedly most of the last one sucked!!!!! I think that this is a direct consequence of our previous leaders lack of concern for the people( Iraq ,gas prices, ,unemployment ,outsourcing ,etc..)...... but now we have new leaders and i would like to get the opinions of the progressive AP folks on how you guys think my man Obama is doing. Please be honest.....(although i love his swagger he has made me mad on more than on occasion!)

This was no win for Obama personally. If he was to bring our troops home, those against him would've called him a cut & run president. Since he's sending in more troops then obviously those against him are going to cheerlead about a broken promise.

The way I see it is, Iraq/Afghanistan are gonna have to learn to get it together themselves without America, Obama should do what he's planning to do with the situation in Yemen, train the local millitia/Army to deal with the matter themselves, so therefore America won't be in three damn places at once.

Oh and there's this:http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article...
I think he's been fucking up, big time! I'm not even sure where to start in my limited time, but i'll just throw these items out there:

That consentration camp in Cuba remains open more than a year after Obama said he'd shut it down.

He sold us out to pharmaceutical drug kinpins( http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/blogs/star_mason/2009/08/... )

He's escalating the Afghan invasion despite accepting a Nobel Peace prize.
On a good note, he did just very recently lift a 20+ year travel ban on foriegners with HIV. So there's that.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/31/us/politics/31travel.html
Gitmo ... My isle took in four former Gitmo hostages. The people here threw such a fit about receiving them fearing backlash from Britain for dong something without Britain's approval; not to mention fear that the men, who were found innocent, would for some reason start blowing things up. SInce this place is so damned small, I bumped into the four guys. Police were everywhere in the bushes and what not to protect them from a crazy population I suppose. I was bothered that people were more outraged over these four men then the rising gun violence in a place where all guns are banned. Led to the creation of a new political party. Also led to the US backing off the island as a tax haven and thus my mom and pother Bermudians keeping her job since the big insurance and reinsurance companies are no longer threantened into leaving. So I thank Obama for my continued quality of life.
I give Obama an incomplete. There are some things that he did that I'm sort of kind of happy with...wait...I'll remember it in a minute, it's coming to me..oh, yeah! He ordered that they shoot the Somali pirates. Kool.
Anyway, I'm not too thrilled with his performance, he's governing like he lost. I'm not too thrilled about the health care bill, seems like he handed the insurance companies a gift. If you have no morals and you want to make a few bucks, go put your money in health care stocks, they're bound to go up since the government is about to hand over 30 new million customers to these clowns.
Thanks Obama!

P.S. I still think he's a better choice than McCain/Palin. I shudder to think where we would be with those two in charge.
He's only been in office months. Damn! Give him some time. I'm feeling the incomplete, though.
he has the worst job in american. granted, he asked for it, but still. nobody gives him a break. it's going to take more than a year to fix all the shit that happened in the past decade or so. i'm sure that's not easy.

i think so far he's doing ok. i like the fact that he picked sotamayor for a supreme court justice, especially since her job will last a lot longer than his.

it's also nice to see more people of color interested in politics. that's kind of inspirational.
Reid apologizes for racial remarks about Obama during campaign

Washington (CNN) -- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid apologized Saturday for making racially insensitive remarks about Barack Obama during the presidential campaign.

Journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann reported the remarks in their new book "Game Change," which is scheduled to be in bookstores Tuesday.

The authors quote Reid as saying privately that Obama, as a black candidate, could be successful thanks, in part, to his "light-skinned" appearance and speaking patterns "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

"He [Reid] was wowed by Obama's oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama -- a 'light-skinned' African American 'with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,' " Halperin and Heilemann say.

"Reid was convinced, in fact, that Obama's race would help him more than hurt him in a bid for the Democratic nomination," they write.

In a statement to CNN, Reid said, "I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words."

"I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African Americans for my improper comments.

"I was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama during the campaign and have worked as hard as I can to advance President Obama's legislative agenda," the senator from Nevada said.

Reid pointed to his efforts to integrate the Las Vegas Strip and the gaming industry, among other legislation favored by African-American voters.

"I have worked hard to advance issues important to the African American community."

The senator called Obama Saturday afternoon to apologize for the racially insensitive remarks.

"Harry Reid called me today and apologized for an unfortunate comment reported today," Obama said in a statement.

"I accepted Harry's apology without question because I've known him for years, I've seen the passionate leadership he's shown on issues of social justice and I know what's in his heart. As far as I am concerned, the book is closed."

Reid, who waited to formally endorse Obama until after the tough presidential primary battle ended in 2008, is facing an uphill re-election fight this year in his home state.

In the context of Harry Reid being an old white guy, I see nothing wrong with what he said, in fact it's a sentiment echoed by many Black folks.
I don't see how this article has anything to do with the job Obama is doing.

The moment he decided to placate the right-wing by sending more troops is the moment who owned Afghanistan. He played into their hands.
afghanistan can't be allowed to fail. tbh. tho he should've sent more special forces that actually attempt to speak the languages and communicate with the ppl on the ground and tailor fit solutions to specific communities--not to mention their objective is to provide intel, stabilize, and secure places and not simply occupy them... interesting ppls.

but yeah, Obama certainly took ownership over the afghanistan war.

i totally agree with the 'incomplete' if we're going to give him a grade. haha. but i think the dem leadership in the house and senate fucked him up with their stupidity.
Even if your not for the war in Iraq, Just packing up and leaving overnight isn't gonna happen. And if we do just leave Iraq/afghan in the state that it is, it seems to me that it just gives more fuel for the fire of extremist in that region to recruit more members, I agree the use of Special Ops,to break up these groups.

Also, if we do plan to leave, we should help build and stablize a deticated, strong, discipliend army/sercurity force that can tackle these guys.
