Let me start off by saying dreads are something I though about getting for a while I did the whole corn rows thing when I was younger and then cut it due to growing out of that phase. Now years later im back to wanting to get dreads. What I want to know if what are some tips on what I should do to treat my hair before undergoing the process and anything else I may need to know

Just long enough to twist it. i guess wash it good intially. And find a good loc gel. I've tried many over the years and the one I've stuck with the longest is a gel called Mango and Lime. I use the Mango and Lime Island Oil too to keep my hair moisturized. But I guess the best thing to do is to go into some beauty supply stores and find the best thing for your hair. The more natural the better. And you want something as light as possible because you don't want buildup. Depending on how "orderly" you want your hair to be, I would say twist it thourghly a least once a month. Once it's at the length where you can shake it a little bit, you could continue to twist it regularly or just maintain it when it may need a lil love, again, that depends on the style of locks you're going for. When I started out there weren't alot of "locticians". So I did my own hair by trial an error.(My hair's been locked for minute, I've trimmed it at different points in the last 10 years or so) Nowadays in probably almost any area with a decent concentration of people of color you can find people that do locs. It may not hurt to go to a "professional".
