Love Dostoyevsky. I wish I had more European literature, but I'm constantly increasing my library since the hurricane.

hmmm *gets up and checks bookcase*

currently I'm reading "The Autobiography of Assata Shakur". Just finished "The Mercy Papers" by Robin Romm, which is a non-fiction book that chronicles the last three weeks of Romm's mother's life. What I like about this book, as boring as the content sounds, is that fact that Romm is such an excellent writer that she effortlessly creates suspense, comedy and channel's the unadulterated emotion of loss. I'm on a "color complex" theme right now, so after Assata I'm going to read "Don't Play in the Sun" By Marita Golden & "Color Complex" by Ronald Hall. My favorite book is a book of poems by Lucille Clifton called "Good Woman". Ayi Kwei Armah has a really dope book called "The Healers" and if you are looking for mental stimulation, a read by Frantz Fanon is always great.

Hope that helps .. share more of your reads...

well by being a black female of a lighter complexion & growing up in the south, I have a lot of interesting expereinces with "racism within the race." For over a year I was working for a creole family at a restaurant and they are hardcore racist against thier own people! It's crazy. I have so many shades of color in my family and I have always been interested in trying to better understand the science and psychology behind self-hatred. I want to do something with it, I'm not sure yet, maybe a book, preferably a short film, who knows.

O ok I can understand that my moms is half black half white and my pops half black half dutch so I know about the color issue that sucks that they are like that but its cool u can see beyond that and search for a deeper meaning so kudos for that lol
that's a pretty interesting mix. I'm not too sure what the makeup of my heritage is other than chinese american, and black. I've been told that there is more, but i'm not too sure about it.

Chinese and black is a pretty cool mix but I guessin that's tuff living in the n.o how is that 4 you
not tough, louisiana collectively might be pretty conservative, but New Orleans is pretty damn cool. every once in a while i run into some interesting characters, but it's what's said behind closed doors that paints the true picture of how people feel in terms to race, & racism within the race.
