^^ Yup. (Wo)man cannot live on "astronaut food" alone. It bothers me to see so many front- and back-yards littered with, er ... litter in my neighborhood. Food plants could be grown in those bombed-out, underused spaces by the occupants. Regardless of what the future holds, I'd like to see more people growing their own shit, provided their means allow it. There's a university literally up the street from us, and I think their Ag department sends out free seeds to those who request them, provided the plants requested are native to our soil.

they have a program like that in miami
since its a diverse area and people from different places settle there. they will give you a start up tree of a tropical tree that can grow in the area. lots of people use the program but not in certain populated areas. education could make a lot of people self reliant and save lives

Even here, we have programs like that. I was thinking of joining up and starting my own garden once I get my living situation ironed out. Really, I just want to start a worm bin.
