AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Punk is dead, and this website is killing it. You all are just a bunch of sellouts with your college degrees, and hipster fashion.Punk is about anarchy, were supposed to be a community that goes against the grain. But instead we sell out to big companies like Toyota. I'd like to acknowledge all the TRUE anarchist, rebellious, free minded individuals out there, that are actually trying to change the world.
I'm disappointed in those that go along with punk because the fashion and music is cool, but are constantly sucking up to authority and money.
Go dance on your paycheck at Starbucks you conformists.

why don't you like black girls?

explain in this handy box

Seriously. That's a good question. I mean I'm all for interracial dating but is it b/c of the king kong factor??

What?

lol.
pure punk?

*yawn* it's like the eternal return of the dumbest and most boring shit to debate on afropunk.
Let's discuss Haitian Vodou or algorithmic music or something interesting.
ok!

i've been meeting more and more black folks w/ veve tattoos...hm....
i wonder who reads your posts...
Most people who claim to be 'non-conformist' are the biggest conformist around.

I understand what you mean about people being into punk for the look and the feel, but I think your opinion is also slightly misguided. It's one thing to want to actually make social change, but another to start a revolution because being into anti-culture is cool :/

You calling people conformist emphasizes that you are no better.

The revolution will not be started by someone sitting around, bitching and complaining about nothing being done.

I don't care if your hair is blue, red, blonde, I don't care if you where freaking pajamas as long as you believe in true anarchy and be yourself. I don't care about being cool , because what's considered cool in my generation is converse, and skinny jeans and all these products that came from punk fashion. And it's like everyone is a poseur. So I really could care less about how someone dresses the person inside matters way more to me than what is presented on the outside.
I'm glad you said this because I am completely against this website in the whole. Punk is such an overused and misunderstood term. Punk is whatever.Maybe what we though was punk is dead but as long as there is rebellion it still lives on.Afro-punk never was punk, it was really just some guy confused about his racial identity, And then it grew into this money making institution. You shouldn't separate punks by race, and this website is doing exactly that. Punk has always been everyone included. So this whole idea of " black punk" doesn't make sense. I understand that punk can be an empowerment for many blacks and that's alright but come on. What is punk anyway anymore?
LMAO
why are you still here?

may not be punk but it's better than you. :)

I'm trying to get off but my email is clogged with these replies. How do you delete your account anyway? I
Click "Settings" in the top right hand corner.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and there's a link that says LEAVE AFROPUNK.

you're welcome.
They have settings to control the emails, you know this right?
you know, its funny that fundamentally I buy into a few points of this rant considering weeding through the attacks on the populace of this good site. I went on a tear in a blog about the allocated imagery and the whole shallow ideas being put through by popular music, but I have a problem with taking a shot at individuals who I don't know crap about. For all I know there are some serious cats here. Maybe i don't have the rocks but I think it's just foul to do that. Problem with it is that this was written by someone young possibly without the full experience of living through the days of "punk". I'f your under the age of 30 you really haven't seen it from the inside. While I can say I'm a bit older than many people I have seen here I am still to young to know those days fully... shit even real old school guys never saw a Clash concert. By todays standard what was originally punk is tame in comparison to what it became in the eighties an allot of those people grew up and became the business guys who dictate music and media that supports it. This is why you find young bands doing covers of old punk bands or aspiring to do the same thing but being still pop. For those days the bands were underground to pop. While I may never listen to Avril levgine or While I like Buckcherry can see the would be pop appeal it isn't like they are any different by todays standards. This is why old rock band icons can become fodder for reality shows like Vince Neal (don't front on hair band guys. They were some hard ass dudes in they day.) Listen to Rush and you may think it isn't that hard but in it's day it was two steps from satanic, and don't get me started on Lemie from Motorhed writing an advice column. As for the higher learning thing, what does that have to do with anything. I have a masters in Fine art but I also got into a fist fight with GG Allens people at Ratscaller back in the day. It means nothing. While I may be unhappy that many don't know about the originators I can say like all music it does evolve and the people do too.
