Is it Just Me...
.... or is Obama heckled more than any other president? A lot of people had extreme hatred for Bush and that was definately reflected in the media and in popular culture but I really don't remember his speeches getting interupted as much as Obama's speeches get interrupted. Maybe I'm trippin' but from what I remember Bush always got respect during his speeches. People act like they're at a damn wrestling match or a baseball game when Obama's up there. I think he handled this particular guy pretty well though...anyways, do you all think he's move fast enough on the "Don't Ask Don't Tell Issue" ?

No it's not you. I realized that. Some white folks are so disrespectful. Obama is not a houseboy. A lot of white people's true colors are being revealed: rude and arrogant. You know what on the DADT. Majority of Americans lack government understanding and process b/c they fell asleep in that class when it was being taught how are government is laid out. DADT is going through the American government process. If anyone should be hackle, it should be the senators and house of reps. Obama is waiting to sign the bill that will throw out DADT. Seriously, many Americans are just plain stupid. I said many not all. I'm a world citizen.

It's not just you, but the best example was when Joe Wilson shouted "You Lie" at the President when he spoke before congress. .
San Francisco has a tradition of protesters interrupting. I remember them going back to the 80s.
I can't agree on everything with Mr. O, but I feel bad for the prez. On his behalf a few points that would have gone great...
"If you haven't noticed, I have a lot of stuff on my plate: Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, North Korea, high unemployment, heavily partisan political environment, terror threats, a deficit that just hit 13 trillion, and a little oil spill that's bigger than the Exxon Valdez."

Alot of it also has to do with the political party. Republicans are notorious for starting shit against Democrates more often then not. Especially since more news stations are Republican owned.
I was saying this a few days ago, but I realised another thing. During the time Bush was in office, the only thing he ever handled was the war, that's all he ever got attention for. The media only focuses on that all the way until the end of his term. Once Obama came into the field, the media has focused on everything he needs to be doing, even blaming him for a certian oil disaster that he has no responsibility over.
Here in florida, a person running for governer put out an ad that has Obama telling a joke at a roast. A ROAST. These guys are finding anything to pick him apart.

The actual title of the president is "The Commander in Chief" AKA WarLord and his job is to enforce laws.
If you look at his speeches, he does tell jokes, you have to pay attention.
Yes, were he WHITE a heckler would have gotten a secret service foot in that ass. no respect, "thats like taking back to your grandma"
if he signs the bill More troops, if not more gay people will heckle Obama, and its up to congress to pass the bill. (BTW)

Not sure where you're going with this. I could insinuate what the purpose of posting that clip has to do with the discussion at hand but I'd rather not assume. Seeing Malcolm speak is always cool though.

Like, for example, after 9-11 happened, all the arm-chair revolutionaries were showcasing that quote like its a new national anthem.
If any of our mothers' were in the WTC (that day), would we be able to fix our lips to say "chickens..."
As far as Obama,.... thats all?
No tomatoes were thrown at him?
No shoes?
I'll be one happy brotha if he survives 2 full terms.
So, he's had a rough time from the conservatives, but thats hardly a breaking news flash.
I wonder.... if Malcolm were alive today, would he still be saying "chickens....." (for everything)?

To my knowledge, no American citizen has thrown footwear or fruit at a standing president on American soil. Sure, arguably other presidents have faced much worse treatment(assasination is the epitome of rudenesss) but what I'm talking about is a general lack of respect. A basic form of respect that was bestowed upon the likes of the oh so despised GW Bush and even those that have publically fallen from grace(Clinton). And that's sort of a big deal to me. People hate to throw around the "r" word and choose to ignore the elephant in the room in the name of a mythical post-racial America but let's keep it real, If Mccain was in Obama's place muhphukas wouldn't be yelling out stuff and interupting his speeches. No it's not the same as getting a funky shoe thrown at you but to me it's indicative of a bigger problem. Obama may be the leader of the freeworld but sometimes he still get's treated like a scrub and "put in his place" by his own countrymen for the world to see. How are other leaders of the world supposed to respect Obama's gangsta if the average joe blow american can just dis the president to his face whenever they feel like it?

oh, thats precisely my point.
Its about race.
It most definitely is.
Our elders (as well as other civil rights leaders) endured hardship & racism that our generation can't even DREAM of.
I'm not brushing off the fact that Obama is being disrespected.
I'm acknowledging that he IS strong enough and responsible enough to stand up in the face of blatant bigotry.
30 or 40 years ago, we wouldn't even be complaining about him being heckled.

Its the idea of the white population blatantly showing its true colors. "[...the result] ...of the climate of hate." Its quite natural to understand that the American institution is designed to hate black people. So despite all the hip-hop minstrel, we've got a black president fanfare -- no one should expect that the maltreatment is something that has gone away. If we're not mistreated publicly or individually, we'll still get it literary, educationally, diplomatically or representationally. This is in perfect context. And his use of it in the JFK reference was a subtle one because that was a white on white event about white american self-loathing of internal cultural otherness, honesty and change. A lot of white people hated JFK -- a "new money, prohibition money, irish catholic n*****-lover".
