AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

This is just for anyone who love Japanese rock and even possibly was inspired to learn Japanese.

I love Japanese anime but never felt the need to learn the language. But after listening to Bump of Chicken, I just wanted to know the words they sang so greatly. I even bought a Japanese language book. I love Jrock, it's it such an amazing genre of music. It is inspiring.

Feel free to comment and list your favorite Japanese bands.

Wow, I can't believe I missed this thread!

I'm not a "weeaboo", I understand that Japan is not some mystical, fantastical place where everything is perfect and better than it is over here in the West, but I've been really interested in Japanese culture for a long time now. I've learned a tiny bit of Japanese over the years, and I love listening to J-punk and watching Japanese movies and TV shows. My favorites are the Gaki no Tsukai series (where they punish comedians for ignorance in hilariously awful ways!), and one of my favorite all girl metal bands ever, Yellow Machinegun. One of my favorite directors is also Japanese- Akira Kurosawa (my favorite movie of his is "Dodes Ka-den"). I could list a lot more really awesome punk and metal bands from there if you want- a lot of them even sing in English, which is pretty cool.

I'm not actively trying to learn Japanese. I am learning it passively by watching movies and anime with subtitles.
