AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

So I got the 3D-Imax tickets (not cheap).
Got a date.
I settled into my seat and prepared myself for what had been hailed as the latest triumph in movie history. I was very pleased. The premise was unoriginal but, with a production price tag like that I wouldn't be taking any chances either. Halfway into the movie though........the little voice in my head whispered "there's no black people in this movie". I stuffed it down and tried to ignore it but the torrent of thoughts started swirling. "Can we get a Samuel Jackson in this mutha!?!?" "Anthropomorphic blue native americans ain't minorities goddamnit!" "That's right, it WOULD take a white man to save the day.....wouldn't it?"
After a while I even wondered if the movie was still in 3D toward the end. WTF. Did I ruin the movie or did JamesCameron? I really tried to like it. I even tried picturing black actors in the movie and placed Chris Rock in the starring role just so I could tell myself "It's cool, A black actor just wouldn't 'fit' in a picture like this"
......and yes my date was white.

I hate myself

james cameron ruined it by insisting on writing it by himself.
i had an annoying headache by the end and felt like it was 4 or 5hours long.

what did your white date think?
Hollywood generally doesn't like darkies... we don't sell well without special circumstances. and Hollywood doesn't care about expanding business into Africa either--a market which would offer us more work opportunities. We have to make our own production companies focused on markets that would support us and quit expecting everyone in america to want to see black people--or even more far-fetched--to want to see us being 'ourselves'.

They've got one us for prez. That's more than enough for them.
Hope you are doing good, Nick. Zoe Saldana and one of the main warrior dudes are Black, they just painted them blue.

Can you blame him? I don't like black people. A lot of black people piss me off.
Wow kif, wow. I agree with everything you said except that BLACK part. I hate people as they piss me off mostly strictly because they themselves hate black people and their hate for me makes me pity them cause they can't even give a smiling polite sister a chance to be human with other humans. Ah the circle of hate, ripe and delicious.

In avatar's case, science fiction and black/brown people do not go together unless blacks are the natives/aliens. It's as if in the future black people are so ignorant we don't want to leave planet earth for nothing, not even to explore the awesomeness of the universe. Either that or some mentioned past world war III wiped us off the face of the earth. I just think it boils down to science ... black people ... cancel each other out in the social mind. We are supposed to be too stupid for "science" and thus to feature us in science fiction would cancel out the science part in it unless it is a post apocalyptic story (we do grungy hard fighter in a world destroyed by non black people really good dating back to the original Night of the Living Dead with the most scifi-ey being Laurence Fishburne's mystical darkie in The Matrix). Scifi comedy on the other hand ....Yep see. There you go. Star Trek though ...
C.C.H Pounder was also in avatar. here's a summary about her part in the movie from IMDB: Mo'at is the mother of Neytiri and also the spiritual leader of Omaticaya clan of Pandora. She interprets the will of Eywa the mother of life.
the race of your date dosen't matter. i didn't watch the movie and i'm in no hurry :-) did you mean the people from earth the closest was the latin american woman rodrigez?
like chelles pointed out cch pounder was in it so was zoe something? (kind of looks like jada pinket), laz alonzo, and that indian doctor who was in drag me to hell.
he hates black people? how? by not having one as the lead human or the token second. their are black actors in the movie in lead roles (painted blue) avatar sucks a visual feast with an okay story (delicous looking plate of food that taste bland)...
but hey, i haven't seen it have just read things that have made me not rush out to see it.
and, hey, you haven't seen the movie!

lol @ the lectures to Nick though...
Hell, Nick! You don't even like black people. You can't tell me you have never met a black person that you hated. There's at least one of us out there that you can't stand. Shit maybe it's me. At least he didn't do us like George Lucas did and cast us all as slack talking, rastafied, space coons ala Jarjar Binks.
jarjar def. made me go flaccid over star wars. and by the way, hating people for being annoying is retarded. its like hating a dog for licking its crotch: expect it and work around it or stop wasting all of our time and energy.
