AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Did anyone watch the Grammys last night? Okay...what did M.I.A have on? I hope after all that droppin' that she finally dropped that baby! And poor Whitney...she looked amazing. But either she was on something last night or the drugs have had a lingering affect on her mind/mouth coordination? What did ya think? I liked Coldplay's performance...but I love them and they really can't do any wrong. I am still mad at the Grammy organization not recognizing the underground circuit though.

I watched part of it. I usually enjoy these music awards shows, but this one was pretty wack. The whole thing just smacked of desperation. Desperation to keep up with web 2.0, desperation to foist new stars upon the public that are clearly less talented than artists of the past, and desperation to just keep people watching 3 hours of tv when they have so many choices of media.

Stevie and the Rev. Al were of course off the chain, but the contemporaries that they were paired with were woefully outgunned

I was surprisingly impressed by Carrie Underwood and Kid Rock. You can really tell who does a lot of shows and a lot of rehearsal.

Not a Coldplay fan, but Viva la Vida is a great song, and self effacing humor will take you a long way.
The performances weren't bad. Radiohead was genius. Thom Yorke looked every bit of the kooky mad scientist but it was brilliant. M.I.A. and Co. rocked it on Swagga Like Us. I'll probably get hatemail for saying it but it was a good performance despite Kanye's hair. M.I.A. held it down, baby ready to drop and all. She should of gotten Record of the Year. Paper Planes was ubiquitous. Anytime something crosses over to Urban succesfully that's sayin something. She should of gotten to rock longer too. I really don't care who won what in the other categories though I don't agree with the Album of the Year choice. I've learned to stop holding my breath for someone truly worthy to get best Rap Album. U2 was alright, I loved seeing Stevie but was bothered that he had to perform with the Jonas Brothas who flubbed some of the words to "Superstitious". All in all, I think there's been worse Grammy's.
Chris Martin sounded like a lounge singer Elvis impersonator. Like Compound, I'm not a Coldplay fan, but Viva La Vida is a great song.

The M.I.A. Jay-Z, Kanye West, T.I. and Lil Wayne thing was expected, but amusing.

It was more or less..."meh"
