This says a lot. The heart of the issue is couplehood. But marriage itself is a legal issue that affects immigration, nationality, inheritance and taxation. If people just squeezed all the political bullshit out of it, marriage would be cool. But people like to glaze over those complicated details and say its amazing.

Nah. I'm all up for couple-hood, cohabitation and civil unions. But I've been thinking about marriage a lot lately and love doesn't have shit to do with it... unless you're some pop-binger who doesn't know about all the legal and political drama thats been going down in human history over it for centuries. That's not love people. That's power. Marry that chick and you get more capital goods. Marry that dude and their country won't slaughter all your people. THAT'S marriage. I feel marriage has been downgraded (for good reason -- unless you're rich or gonna get rich by it) into civil unions.

Civil union is not marriage is not cohabitation is not couplehood.

I believe in love, but marriage to me is 100% unrelated... its a social issue, not a private one.

I just recently did! I love it to damn death! lol
But the thing is both partners can create their own couplehood and ideals. Alot of us (including me) were/are just not interested in the institute of "marriage'. I totally believe it sucks. I totally know that this society is not conducive to a healthy relationship, much less marriage. I do know that many of our parents did not get or stay married. I wasn't given the best example. My dude and I continue to seek guidance and hope to do so thru out our entire couplehood. I strongly recommend couples counseling for couples at whatever stage of the relationship they are in. People of African Descent (YEAH AFROPUNK KIDS) have undergone so much we need to seek counsel for all the damage of the last hundreds of years that still resignate.

I do know that your relationship/union can be what you want it to be. I for one do not have an average "marriage". The ceremony/celebration itself was totally AFROPUNK!!!!!! DO IT YOUR WAY......}{
