read this with much interest in the local CP...nicely written, quite evocative of the time and place. I'm a recent baltimorean, but I remember those days well, having a somewhat similar experience arriving in the US from puerto rico in 1977, but in the deep south! I'm not black, but was nevertheless outside of that society, increasingly by my own choice, and once punk was evident, I never looked back. I wonder if mr. gonzalez is still in touch with his literary muse? Anyway, well done. Thanks for writing this.
