AFROPUNK

... the other Black experience

I'm actually not new to the term "Afro Punk". I've known about it for years from Militia. But I am new to the site. Ever since I was little I was never into Rap, Hip Hop, R:B etc. It's just not me and I could never fully get into it. I have heard a few songs here and there that were "cool" but it's not something I could devote my time listening to. I know the sight is called Afro Punk but I cannot stand Punk music or Hardcore music. The music genres I am big into are Heavy, Death, Grind, Gore, Melodic, Black, Suicidal/Depressive, Doom, Spook, Stoner, Sludge, and Industrial Metal. Along with EBM Industrial, Gothic, Alternative, Classical/Opera, Oldies from the 50's and 60's, Big Band and Swing, Country, Bluegrass, Electronica etc.

The list goes on and on. I live in Austin and there aren't many other blacks that are into the kind of music and stuff I am into. That's why I would like to live on the East Coast someday because from what I have seen there are more blacks that are Metal heads, Goth etc over there. The scene seems so much better on the East Coast. The Metal scene in Austin has gone to crap! I mostly seem to see little Emo, Screamo, Scene and Preppy kids have taken over. Not many Metal bands come here anymore. Anyway I have seen a couple of black alternatives here and there but not many. And one thing I've come to realize is it's HARD to make friends with other black people that are into the same music and stuff as I am. Not trying to offend anybody here but these are just my observations. They come off to me as not really looking to make friends with other blacks like them, semi stuck up and snobbish, and only really looking to befriend non blacks. Which sucks because I'd like to meet other blacks that are like me. And when I signed up on this site I figured maybe that could happen once I become active in the groups and stuff on here.

Well I guess that's all for now. So far loving the site and looking forward to meeting people!

What you mean you don't like Punk and Hardcore! What Blasphemy!....naw just kidding :) (to each his/her own) ANYWAY, Hello Chauntel, welcome to AP. Always cool to see new faces on here. Interesting taste in music you have, I do listen to some metal but it's not exactly my main thing. My taste vary all across the rock, alt, indie and electronic/edm spectrum as well as hip-hop and good soul music, jazz etc.. I just like real, quality music with integrity period. Making real real life friends on here is definetely possible if you put in the effort and I'm sure other members can attest to this. The message boards don't seem to jump like days of old but people do seem to use the chat room so i'd suggest not being a stranger there. All and all I usually check in here on a regular basis for the content which always has something of interest. Anyways, don't be afraid to post and interact! Rock On!

Welcome to the site. If you love metal then you will find many friends here. I may be playing South by Southwest next year. If it happens I will let you know in advance.

Hail the return of of one of AP's prodigal daughters. Welcome back. Post frequently.
