AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

So maybe they've already been talked about here on AP... but OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) is a new-ish, eclectic hip hop collective from L.A. and I was just wondering- if you've heard them- what you think of their music? I, being sort of a hip hop fan, kind of like them. they're no Jay-Z or Biggie or even Lupe, but they are so much different than anything out there. Thoughts?

I like them for the simple fact that comapred to a lot of other stuff out there that's popular they're doing their own thing. They're bringin' a different energy to the game, that kinda punky skater type vibe and that's a a bit left of all the thugged out d-boy, playa type ish. So I give em and e for effort in that department. That being said, they aren't the holy grail of hip-hop or anything, Skillwise and beatwise they're good but far from the best I've heard and technically they're not doing anything new. Listen to some old Wu-tang or betta yet some early Gravediggas and other similar stuff to get a gist of what I'm talking about. Of course they put a 21st century spin on it but the similarities are there. I actually know mad underground cats in D.C. that have been doing that style for years. But like I said, I feel them. Plus, they're young so I'm sure their sound will evolve. I'm watchin' to see where they take it.
Yeah, it's kind of like Natas inbreeding with Eminem's early shit.
