AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Ugh, I've been fighting with my poor scalp for the longest time. It keeps flaking and getting itchy even. I have permed hair (tho I have thought about wearing it natural but that's someday, not today) and use Pantene Pro-V shampoo and conditioner for permed and colored hair and before that I would use the neutralizing shampoo that would come with the perm kits (There was quite a bounty wracked up).

Doing some research, I am starting to suspect that the culprit is my shampoo. I oil my hair with Mega Care Olive Oil and I drink water (tho I am starting to drink more). What would you suggest to help me out?

I know it is a bit late but you can try

First: clarifying you hair by using baking soda and water check out Motowngirl.com for the recipe

Second: Skip washing your hair

Third: Co-washing your hair with a deep conditioner (try to get a conditioner without silicones) I like Organix Coconut conditioner. You can condition every other day.

Fourth: massage your scalp to improve blood circulation

Fifth: use healthy fats on your scalp; olive oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, almond oil

Another website I use to find all I need to take care of my hair is nappturality.com, it does not support relaxing hair, but you can find tips on how to care for your hair.

I hope this helps

I think you may have dandruff (there are different kinds), so I would see a dermatologist/ regular doctor. I relax my hair and had the same problem, but if your relaxer is done properly it shouldn't ever be a problem, also try an anti dandruff shampoo it will help your scalp out anyway.

Hey there, I will say I have heard many of horror stories from my clients due to using pantene Pro V

I think you should try an actual professional brand of product, Paul Mitchell has amazing shampoo that work on all types of hair

Id lean more to wards something with moister. Tea Tree oil based products would also be a great start.

What ever you decide to do just don't go overboard with products not eveything is ment to mix. It may very well be something you need to see a dermatologist about.
