... the other Black experience

Sooooo...I have not seen the movie because it looked stupid, but I am up to the 4th book in the Twilight series and I think the writer unintentionally slipped some subliminal racist weird stuff in there.

1. This writer is a mormon so she wrote the story so the characters wouldn't do the 'no pants dance' until they were married. I'm not even far enough to see if they do anything or not but I can predict it. So she's already slipping her religion into the book without saying that's what she's doing.

2. *spoiler* Why the hell does the only minority character have to be a sneaky bastard that sneaks kisses and makes Bella, the main character, cheat on her "eternity partner". Jacob seems like an ugly asshole and I don't think it's a coincidence that everything beautiful is described as white and pure and nearly transluscent.

Sure this chick says she cares about him but wtf he's obviously not someone the reader is supposed to side with. As racist as I think this series is I'm still reading the last book. I want Bella to die from her hubby eating her.

^^Naijawood? Cause the Indian peninsula already got dibs on changing the first letter; Bollywood. And they did a bang up job. Why must we mimic instead of innovate in order to feel included (by ironically, creating more separatism)?

Lol...now that I think about it, there were A LOT of connotations of white signifying pure and beautiful.

That's a common allusion and has been for centuries in a lot of cultures. In linguistics it's the implication of the word "fair".

i saw this movie in the theater, and pretty much spent the whole time wishing for jacob to go wolf and kick those sad little anemic "vampire" kids' asses throughout the whole thing. but. blah. . . didn't happen. just never ending pale twinkling nasties and their quest to not get laid or properly fed.
oh. but there was that one black dude. he seemed pretty badass. almost made me want to pick up the books. Almost.
also, can someone please explain to me why nikki reed had to BLEACH HER SKIN for her role in this movie? i mean. . . really? Really??

There is no mention of any minorities other than Native Americans in the book. I'm almost certain this badass character was made just to balance out how much the book lacks any diversity. If there's any mention of a person of a different race it's indirect and the narrator, Bella, will say something like, "Their skin had a bit of an olive hint", which is what she said in the 4th book. Or once I recall her saying something about a woman with "dark features"....whatever the hell that is supposed to mean.

I'm not even surprised about the skin bleaching thing. The whole book makes white and pale seem like the most amazing thing ever. The character Nikki Reed plays is also supposed to be the most beautiful person in the whole series, according to Bella.
I don't know why there has to be a minority chararcter in there. This novel was created by white mormon woman, why the do you think she's going to be including non-white characters in her stories? She really doesn't have to have to put them in there (even though she did put a NA in there).

I'm not saying because she's white and mormon, she lacks depth to put minority chararcter in her novel. It's just that if you look at her background, you'll assume there's probably not going to be minority chararcters in the novel. It could be a case of not having any people of colour around her circle.
Twilight is horrible, it's about  two seemly damned creatures fighting over a plain jane white girls, the plot is played out. It just turned me off.
