AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

With a recent conversation I've had with a long standing member of the board. I believe they've decided to leave the board. It bothers me that we lost a member due to a conversation on separatism. I saw another side of the board and some members I was not proud of and surprised by. The idea of trying to promote separatism of any kind is counterproductive. Bottom line, we all need each other.

I wonder if we have the same member in mind. Anyhow, from what i've seen, the whole separatism discussion was started by a very questionable member of the board, and I only saw 1 maybe 2 other people agree with her, and they also have questionable reputations. These people come and go all the time. You've been here longer than me so you should know that. I don't get why some members wanna leave when some shit pops off. There's been tons of shit posted on this board that put a bad taste in my mouth, everything from "why the fuck are you here if you ain't punk and talking about Agnostic Front" to "all fags are nasty and the same as pedophiles" to "you ain't no real dread unless you freeforming". I either reply expressing how I feel about it or ignore them all together. But the overwhelming majority of the people I've met and talked to on here have been mad cool, so fuck the few that come in here starting shit.

Either way, I'm sorry to see you and the other member go. I quite enjoyed reading your posts over the years, not to mention we seemed to be into some of the same shit. Take care and best wishes.
I hope he decides to return. His page is still here. Perhaps he'll think differently with time. I chatted with him about it on FaceBook and more than anything, he feels... Well maybe I shouldn't tell what someone else feels. He made it clear in the Against the Grain thread. At any rate, we need to make sure that we don't let another AP take the brunt of someone else's bullshit on the boards, especially if it gets personal. As I told him, I didn't jumped into soooooo many "board fights" because I felt it wasn't for me to do. You know, people are grown and should be able to handle it themselves. I wasn't here for the stuff that went down on that particular thread, but I wondered if I would have said something. I thought about that when an AP was called out of her name w/ the use of explitives, and I knew I couldn't let that pass. It was personal, mean and uncalled for. There are a couple of people on the boards who like to talk shit aaaaalll the time. I'm not an OG, so maybe that's how things have always been. But, we need to think about sticking up for some people if it looks like it's getting out of hand. I know some AP's do that all the time.

Brotha man is definitely missed. FaceBook is NOT AfroPunk!
Shit. I just realized that you didn't say that you were leaving. I tend to skim through posts. I'll be sure to not misread next time. sorry man

CA, this b.s. is nothing new. It's been going on since Spooner started the boards. People have come on here with every kind of bullshit, and some will argue it out and stick around, others will say "fuck this place" and leave. Most people can handle their own here. To be honest, most the the arguments i've seen here are tame compared to the old board, so don't believe anyone that tries to glorify that place as being the mecca of all things great and peaceful and progressive. There was plenty of shit going on there. Hell, take a look for yourself..lol.

And not to say that you shouldn't have stood up for Mile (of course you should always speak if you see someone being wronged), but she's no stranger to battle around these parts. She holds her own just fine..lol
I'm not leaving the board. As corny as it sounds, but," why leave?" One of the problems with expansion and marketing, it'll will attract people that want to be apart of a trend, people that are curious and people that want to start shit...and those are just some people that have been on here for awhile, lol. Some original members left because of that or they grew out of it. I feel, if you leave something and the reason why is because an influx of hipsters, posers or whatever trend whores come in and that are not genuine about what we're promoting, then you let them win. There a few things that I'll fight for and listed in no particular order are...

My family and friends
Freedom of expression
Music
My woman
My right to what I find interesting

I consider Afro-Punk family and in some ways kind of a fraternity. But, when you have someone spewing hatred, you break down that community. We can't let that happen.

Yes, I do have a website/blog that I'm developing, but, it's intention isn't trying to rival anything. Mainly, it's for analyzing music that I enjoy and topics and/or content that might not fit Afropunk.com's interests or Ning's standards nowadays *Plays Rick James "Super Freak."* Really, it's to bridge the gap or be a "warp zone" that will expand the realm of alternative urban culture. We have a great concept here. Regarding Ghettopunkrocker.com, to paraphrase The Mighty Boosh "It's a mash up! Elements of the past, elements of the future coming at 'cha!"

I agree. I like to be accepted by my own. I am thankful for the lifelong friends I have met through here. I'll always be happy about that. * peace and love, man.
I guess I have to get back on Facebook. I'm sorry that this happened.

I can understand WHY he'd feel the need to distance himself from people he thought were friends/family. It seems like their true nature came out. I can totally understand it and I regret it ever happened.

The black racism/separatism rearing it's ugly head on this board is no surprise to me, i sensed it in some of the people who non nonchalantly agreed with the main two racists awhile ago. The problem is that's only the tip of the iceberg. People claim to be down but deep inside they're ready to make difference over skin color/racial heritage. And it's sad and ruins what AP is supposed to be.

I see it as a loss of innocence type thing, almost like a betrayal a wronging- I haven't logged onto to facebook to run this by him, tho.

Poo Poo. :(

I didn't know that you were ever on Facebook. If you go back, let me know so that I can add you or you can add me. <3 ...since just about everyone that I like and talk to on AP is over there as well.
lol I'm back. I'm back on myspace, too.

Yeah and it wasn't so much her opinions but her racial slurs. That was it for me. You can't just come in, all new, and call a man who isn't even a Mexican a taco eating, bordering jumping ass. And talk about "them" taking over "your" neighborhood.

Opinions are fine but racial slurs and thoughtless hate speeches are not. Like for me, the craziest shit was that dude (we all know who) being fully aware of black people's issues but failing to realize (somehow) that Mexicans have the same issues in their own country because they are not white and have to escape. At that point it's like "crack open a book" but it will do no good. At least he didn't bust out racial slurs.

The bolded is my biggest fear for this site, and why I say... I hate censorship as much as the next guy here, but seriously when a problem such as Hidaya(opps sorry) pops up action needs to be taken, yes they're discussion boards, but her/it's discussion were more tick offs, and hate speeches more than anything. Action was asked for, by me, someone said something about hating censorship and I backed off from wanting to get her banned. The facts have to be faced, the white washed, and afrocentric polar opposites are going to come to this site. The punk extremist, the washed-scene black kids, and the pro-black extremist are gonna show up, because their out casts views that the average everyday person doesn't give a shit about, they think that everyone here is either super washed, or super first pump militant, and that's not the case.

Once again, I don't agree with censoring, but being a dick warrants your banning.
Dude, huh? I get of whom you're speakin, Mlle. When I FB chatted w/ our brotha El, he was really upset at dude. Damn. I wish I would have seen this thread. Just the words you typed makes me pissed. So many years of board posting and AP love. I completely understand and respect El Machetero's decision. You make friendships that really are more than that. To be an ass with family just ain't cool, especially if it's around ethnicity and ignorance.
Ok seriously that IT has fucking problems, she/he/it was gonna boycott a book SISTAH F'N SOULJA just because Midnight marries a japanese woman. DUDE DO YOU KNOW FUCKIN' STUPID THAT SOUNDS? Jesus christ .

Also, SISTAH soulja is very talented and by no means a "sell-out".

As for the hate speech, I say check they ass on that, cuz if Afro-Punk is gonna be stormfront with facebook makeover, them I'm out.
