... the other Black experience

i can't possibly be the only one. what do you like to wear, where do you like to shop, what inspires you to get dressed in the morning? i am really interested! after all it isn't as shallow as people make it seem, it's still a form of art and expression.

I dunno if I answered this...I mostly shop at Rainbow, Victoria Secret (undies), Wet Seal, Payless Shoes, Rack Room Shoes, Hot Topic, JCPenny, There's also some stores that has NY type fashion or the name NY in their title...I can't search for it.

That's the type of stuff I wear right now. Hot Topic is loosy goosey, mostly for band shirts or any nice shirts on clearance. I don't like the new gen stuff. :P
i like good, funky individual style personally. would like to add to this discussion but gotta go....

i wear jerkin attire(skinny jeanz and cartoon tee shirt) or formal dresses with leggins.
purple, fuchsia and teal are my fav colorz to wear.
as for shoes... blazers or most high top shoez.
I consider it a great point of pride to get awesome pieces for cheap, so I love stores like TJ Maxx and Ross. Some of my favorite and most-worn pieces have come from these stores. I like buying Hanes beaters and rocking them out...like taking ordinary pieces and pairing them in ways that they look extraordinary, at least in the context of just day-to-day style. I love Sourpuss Clothing as well, got an awful lot of my wardrobe from them. If I call myself really caring, then I like to wear things that are kitschy and outrageous, and I can get that from Sourpuss.

I have to say that I'm more interested in piercings and tattoos to express my individuality and style and general worldview than in the clothes I wear, though. I haven't been able to start investing in any of that, but I'm sure that when I'll start that it'll take more precedence for fashion expression than the clothes I wear on my back.
I dress myself in the tomboy essentials: Jeans and a t-shirt. My closet is soooo dark because I have a lot (AND I MEAN ALOT) of black tees. As for shoes, I stick to practical and comfortable athletic shoes. I've recently gotten into high heels but not extensively. I do have dresses, frilly lingerie, and other girly stuff but I only wear them on special occasion. I always do something fashionable with my hair but I don't wear makeup. My beauty is subliminal.
I'm into style over fashion, and my style varies depending on my mood, the event I'm attending and to a degree the people I spend time with. So natch this can range from rock & hip hop inspired attire, to an apocalyptic or dapper/prep look. And I shop vintage, retail & thrift in equal parts.

My m.o. is plaid & denim ALL DAY. I've been wearing plaid shirts practically all my life, which as a black girl growing up in the 80s/90s was NOT cool. But I love the shit out of plaid and I've amassed quite a collection of vintage & current trend plaids.

I also collect denim and sneakers, although I will stop short of calling myself a sneaker head :)

I always try to shop for classic looks, nothing too trendy. But even if I slip up, it wont matter, that trend will recycle itself in a few years anyway :)
I tend to follow/wear fashions from overseas more than in the States (where I'm currently going to school). Not that I wouldn't care to try from time to time, but everything looks like a semi - clone of another line a handful of decades earlier. Though I have the money to go couture, I'd rather wear what I'm comfortable in. So, I'm going to say ' I'm more of an enthusiast than a fan of some fashions' .

Really getting into the habit of DIY'ing my closet these days. Soo, not above thriftstoring or cosignment stores.
Wear Creepers!!!

i dress like a trendwhore. i give a fuck; i'm skinny and tall and finally found something that works for me. I don't like women's clothes at all with all the zippers/ties/buttons/shit on them. I'm glad they started making fitted shirts for men, I like Express and American Eagle because they fit me nicely and I ca wear them to work. Otherwise I'm not really brand-loyal; i just try to find a shirt with a nice fit. I like buttondowns (and lost my favorite navy one *sob*) and slim-fittin jeans. I don't have a lot of tennis shoes except converses and i have a few pairs of wingtip shoes. I like accessories; belts, hats, ties, watches, suspenders. I'm trying to teach myself how to sew because finding men's pants that fit the way i like always ends up being expensive as hell. I wish i lived somewhere that had more liberal-dressing people so that i wouldn't get stared down, but whatever. Dressing is fun.
