Taqwacore - Birth of Punk Islam

Ok so I'll admit to not having had the chance to read the entire article, but what i had time to read, i found it interesting and wanted to post a link to the doc, and the site i found out about it on. It's not necessarily religious; way more political, actually. (and shout out to the all female and queer-fronted band in the movement, 'The Secret Trial Five'.)

Al-Thawra are really good! I've had the pleasure of seeing them live the last three times they played in Chicago. Three of the nicest guys you'll meet. They should have a new CD out early next year.

WOW, i love it! And they seem like the REAL deal, too. There's actually alot ov UG sub-kulture through-out many [predominately] Muslim countries, including a particularly nasty Black Metal scene in Iran. Thanks for posting this GodsavetheQueer, hopefully it'll get much uglier!

yeah, DEFINTELY JUST came back from the mosque ... gotta go 2 sleep cause i actually have to head out to the mosque tomorrow too. I think this is such an interesting thing, being muslim and punk ...

That film was great!! Saw it a couple months ago. Finding power in punk is something common to people who might feel misunderstood and disrespected in their homeland. And using that as your voice outward, I totally get it.
