... the other Black experience

Republican Tom Tancredo opened the Teabag Party convention this past
weekend (in which Sarah Palin was notoriously photographed with a
cheatsheet handwritten on her palm) with a rousing call for a “literacy
test” for voters. The “literacy test” was a pre-civil rights method
utilized in the South to prevent blacks from voting.***** http://rsiasoco.wordpress.com/2010/02/08/tea-party-speaker-reinstat...****

Not only did he call for the literacy test he blames the lack there of as a reason for Obama winning the election.

What do people think about this?

It's troubling times indeed and people like him are delusional. They are full of hate and feel "oppressed" and looking for scapegoats.

It's because the tea bag folks speak against their best interest. They mouth right wing propaganda and the right uses the media to push it further. Their blatant racism and hate for people that aren't them is just sad. It cracks me up though that people say it isn't about race but then resort to making racial jokes about obama. If it isn't about race, his race should be irrelevant.

A friend of mine shared a hellva observation with me - there were 20x more people who were out protesting the war in Iraq when it started - and they got minimal coverage in the press. These teabag wack jobs are vocal, but they are really few in number, and the press just eats them up. What's that all about?

All I could do is nod in agreement...

Money and connections...War protestors are mostly young college students. Whereas, tea partiers are retirees with money to burn. In Tn the "tea baggers" just had some sort of huge banquet ($315 plate, I think).

Its getting kinda scary in my neck of the woods. People in this are are actually taking the constitution party seriously...
i thought it was more like 500/plate... ick.
but yeah it's amazing to me that these ppl want to bring back the literacy test. ha.

The "take America back" tour is stopping through here in March. My mom's bf wants to go. If I can rent some video equipment I would like to video tape it.
Just put on your white face and go. Most educated Americans (cross-ethnically speaking) think they're a bunch of full o' shit Reagan throwbacks anyway. But hey, if you can get to know your constitution better than they can and trump them on their Americaness, thats what'll matter in the end... that and having a larger militia than they do...
its ok when "certain" people protest but not others. the iraq war protesters were trying to undermine the war machine which equals making money in a war we shouldn't be in. remember the protesters at the DNC convention were called anarchist and communist mind you that was not the case for a lot of them. Even reporters were being harassed and arrested it was ridiculous. The right to protest is almost non existent. Also why are they making money off this thing again.. $300 plates thats ridiculous

Just asking. What do you get for $500 bucks? Is it like lobster and filet mignon? Is it haute cuisine?
a palin speech...and the organizer made it very clear that the conference was for-profit
Not for that reason; just to get perspective.
