Metal, it is what it is.
I think it's just you. Do you play an instrument or play in a band? It's not that easy.
i play both bass and electric.but my skills are in bass.i think it suits me more and the funny thing is i wanted to learn electric more than bass

dunno what kind of metal you're into, but check out Jameson (www.myspace.com/jamesontheband)...lemme know what you think, i'm not big into the genre but think they're super talented musically.

well anything all metal genres..........death,black,thrash,doom,gothic,technical,progessive pretty much all

and that band jameson is pretty fucking awesome
I was always under the impression that one of the few "positive" stereotypes that outsiders will assign to "metal" genres is the technical proficiency required to play such music. A boring repertoire doesn't go far, no matter how cute your get-up might be.

That could depend on where and how hard you look, some might say. To be honest, I've no interest in seeking out the next metal band to take my imagination captive -- I kind of hope/expect to hear something in passing that piques my interest.

There's also a pitfall in relegating all the "good" stuff to the past tense, as well. Majority of my favorite musical outfits (metal and non-metal) are rooted in the eighties -- mopey, Brit-stuff. But I don't doubt that the Artic Monkeys, Beta Band, or whomever else I've only heard about in the last few years (whilst not making an effort to hear any of it) have expounded on the foundations that lean towards my taste.

Never know when you might be blown away by something (new).

to be honest i dont really care much about technical prowlness.i just dont want to hear a mass destruction of bands following a clone techniques used over.you can always try to satnd out with it or take it to a another level but no one does that

well of course 70s through early 90s in general had kickass music.even one hit wonders were enjoied.but i guess mainstream was cashing on the music genres in general with a tight grip and this is what we have now.decent to low quality.and i think metals downfall came to start with nu metal.dont get me wrong i like the genre but it just was in a wrong alternative road and it stir too much

Not a fan of nu-metal by any stretch, but things have to evolve in order to progress. As for the direction of the evolution, I don't know if anyone can predict or wholly influence the divergence. And like "good" music, the shitty stuff has to run its course too, in order to peter out and pave the way for something else. There's probably some economic law I could refer to, but I can't thnk of anything poignant. But yeah, ...oversaturation is but a speed bump.

Which reminds me ... I still need to check out Mastadon. They're spoken of as saviors in some circles, I hear. I'm curious about the reactions, if nothing else ...

YEAH I GUESS YOUR RIGHT

the good and right must have a equal share.

and em you really need to listen to mastadon like right now lol, start off with songs like blood and thunder or colony of birchmen then make your way through other songs to the final level song.............................. oblivion
Well if you're going by big commercial labels like MetalBlade, then Hell OVCOURSE you're gonna be disappointed! You see, there's two types ov Metal. There's all that dumb shit that hardly isn't Metal at all. Then there's the Real shit that i listen to. I could NEVER be disappointed or become jaded with Metal. I'm always finding out about awesome new UG bands, as well as discovering old classics i had'nt really bothered myself to look into before. Like, i've been on this major BATHORY kick over the past week. I just found out that BEHERIT, one ov my favorite bands ever, just put out a brand new album - i thought they had broken up in 1995! GORGOROTH's new album is out. Plus, there's a slew ov UG bands/one-person-acts that are doing all kinds ov interesting & sick shit with music (e.i. GNAW THEIR TONGUES).
If the only Metal bands you listen to range somewhere b/t Lamb ov God & Mastadon, you'll probably be all like "meh".
