Darkness Descends is definitely the bomb, but I don't think it's better than Reign. Reign was so good and had such killer production that I have never heard anyone complain about the length of it to this day. The whole thing is around 20 minutes. Kreator and Destruction were my favorites from Germany.
Yeah, D.R.I. were like the epitome of thrash (IMO) but the younger generation isn't that familiar with them. Hopefully this changes because 4 of a Kind and Thrash Zone are classics despite the fact that they come somewhat "late." I agree with you on Anthrax, they're definitely underrated and made the funnest albums out of the big 4. Shit, a lot of their music back in the day was just straight up beautiful.

to be honest.im not the one who likes the majority stuff.like the big 4 for example.everyone 100% loves slayer, metallica, megadeth so much but i swear no one pays that much attention to anthrax.i feel as they a cool FUNNY! ass band.also theres better acts in thrash such as dark angel, channel zero, nuclear waste, believer, sodom, laaz rockit, autopsy, exodus, sadus,Voivod,Razor, Annihilator, d.r.i (thought there crossover thrash) but yeah.
to be honest, i love bands such as d.r.i and anthrax.i loved that they werent serious and just had fun cause we had alot of bands like that already in the thrash scene.

i notice around the 90s that metallica, slayer and megadeth all try to do like mainstream radio friendly music while the bands they were back seated like dark angel and shit were out there making thrash metal more technical and shit.u know exploring with other stuff and they would get notice for that

Real fuckin' talk. Those big mothafuckas weren't that hungry and lost their creative streak. Bands like Dark Angel, Testament, Atheist, Sadus and Death were putting out music to make music, not music to sell music. I think they were the peak of thrash as far as tech goes. It's funny how they arguably got better better with each album while the big four got progressively worse into the 90's, lmao.

I still can't believe that they actually passed up having Les Claypool as their bassist. That cracks me up.

I don't think Claypool would have gone over well in that group. If you watch the last Met documentary, a big part of it was James and Lars opening up the writing and the recording process as opposed to dictating everything to the other 2 dudes. This was part of the reason that Jason left. Claypool could definitely play the material, but given how much time he has spent as a bandleader, I doubt he would have been happy being hazed and lectured as much as Jason was. I also doubt he would have been happy with all of his bass lines getting crushed out of the mix by rhythm guitar. Most of the Metallica albums before the Black album have hardly any audible bass.

DARKNESS DESCENDS!

Fuck yes, Darkness Descends is the "real nigga shit" of thrash metal. That and Testament. And on the German front, some fucking Sodom.
Oh, i never really got into Dark Angel or listened to any ov their stuff. I've never heard that album, so i'm still sticking with Reign in Blood.
No, he wouldn't have. I just find it utterly hysterical that Hetfield was like "Dude...you're TOO good to be in our band".

You should listen to Darkness Descends before saying this. It's heavier, faster, and more aggressive than Reign in Blood. You'd love it.
