AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

So, maybe this has been done already, but I'd like to know how and what people think and feel about today's fashion and apparel- guys and gals. Where it is/been/going, that type of thing. Personally I feel that it is relatively important to at least have some sense of individual style; like I don't immediately go with one look, I just try to mix it up a little bit. Thoughts and opinions would be great.

I have to admit, I am a bit of a sneaker fan, although I do not have 10-20 pair of them or whatever (more like 7). Lately I've been sticking with classic/all-black type sneaks. Basically something that will still be classic/in-style 20+ years from now.

I am kinda glad baggy pants are starting to fade away from the scene to be honest. With that said, I'd never wear a pair of bright red skinny pants, let alone any color skinny pants- I predict that that fad will fade in due time. I just stick with whatever fits me, lol.

The whole concept of stylizing ahead of our time is appealing to me as well.
I don't know how to define how I dress.

zebra tights one day aqua skinnies the next. I like bright colors mixed with black for contrast. I love converse or vans. I try to stick with whatever's vegany.

that's how I'd dress if I had the loot to rebuild my drab wardrobe.
I'm usually in jeans from 4 years ago, knee high converse and some type of top my mom got for me in highschool. I'm poor and I never get any bigger so my clothes stay the same.
But if I had the extra money.. ...

I love day glo and animal print and shiny material. On the other hand I like black lace and retro-roaring 20s style accents and stuff. ...I've got a few things in the vein of what I like.
Drew: I like seeing such a big variety. Personally I like the pseudo punk and colorful look (I don't know what else to call it) and I also like the exact opposite, especially for myself: the old school classic look based somewhat on everything from the 30's - 60's fashions.

I LOVE HATS!

I want to study Millinery.

Jervon Sir, be not ashamed. I easily have twice as many shoes/boots/sneakers as you do. SHOE LOVERS COME OUT THE CLOSET.

:runs out of thread:

My niece told me her man needs his own closet JUST for his well kept sneakers collection. Ain't just for the ladies no more.

SHOES.

SHOES ARE YOUR FRIEND.

Its funny seeing 19 year olds dressing in dayglow t shirts and pumps.

Been there done that. LOL!
I never thought it would happen but most of what I wear now is t shirts and denim skirts. I love fashion and wish I had an excuse to get diva dolled out. But all that finnta change.
jeans... the interest has to do with me being a chicken-legged lanky kid and never having proper pants or jeans (always flooded and ill fitting/diaper butt embarrassment). favorite pairs at the moment are Acne Hex (high waist slim-straight), a pair of japanese half-selvege one-wash slubby straights, and black April 77 colordrives (mid-waist skinny). :]

anyway, my closet is real disproportionate...lots of jeans and then i rotate old t-hirts, thermals, sweaters, wifebeaters for layering and camisoles in the summer.

the one thing that's really common is no branding, no words, no symbols. simple and nothing overtly trendy.

i'm getting tired or just feel too comfortable in what i wear a lot now... on the look out for more dresses/skirts that i can alter, simple patterns, and a deal on a used sewing machine. :]

here's where i'm headed --

homemade over the knee dresses w/ lots of excess fabric for draping. lots of layering.
I think it's a rehash of the past fashion. But some of it does look nice, some look horrible.

This reminds me I lost some knee high brown retro looking converse that had a star on the side and cream "fur" at the top with buckles omg I want to kick myself for losing them. I can't bring myself to buy another pair because they won't ever be the same.

I am able to buy my clothes cheap cuz I only buy from the store that I happen to be working in. I work in Volcom in NY now so that's pretty much where I'm getting all my stuff from atm. I still have plenty of throw back shirts and recently I've been getting holes in my jeans that are super old.

Going to The Salvation Army or any kinda place that's similar is awesome for finding funny retro gear.
Cool. I think everyone should know how to sew and own a sewing machine. Sigh ... left mines in Canada ... But as soon as I get a new one I am going to try my hand at bubble skirts/shitrs/ etc ... and copying the pattern of tops and bottoms that I like

In the meanwhile I haunt places like etsy and threadless and thegiantpeach and modcloth (for its vintage flair)

I think it's even funnier to see men in my age group wearing the baggy shiny sportswear basketball jersey and matching long shorts look. BAH!
