AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Thoughts on Tyler Perry,

Tyler Perry’s popularity among the masses is literally spilt in half. Many people don’t like his works. They complain about the stereotypical black characters and that its not comical for a man parodying around like a woman. However his works always involve forgiveness, overcoming obstacles in life, and moving on to becoming a better you.

I understand how some people don’t like the stereotyping of the black characters, but its usually the comedy relief characters. And if the main characters are like that, by the end of the movie they have grown to become a different person.

I also understand they can be repetitive as well and that can be annoying sometimes. But overall I still believe they are great movies with really good messages.

Your thoughts?

I think he should come out of the closet. Not even being facitious.
Not a fan of his movies...and I think "Meet the Browns" and "House of Payne" sucks. But, I'll give the dude credit for at least not just talking about what he wants to do and doing endless networking that leads to nothing.
did he and oprah do that episode on child sexual abuse of young boys?

Yep
I like him, his personality can be kinda smug, and his movies are pretty good for the most part.

All he needs now is a flick about a love triangle involving men and I'll jump on his super fan bandwagon.
I guess in the end, I can give him props for what he's done...its just his fantards that drive me off the wall...and I can't believe I just said there are Tyler Perry fantards.
He sucks, hands down. Not only that, but anyone who likes him sucks.
I never got into the TV shows.I do like most of his movies though except for maybe 3 of them.

I think his films are trash, how anyone can't see that he sits around and uses the same plot over and over to prey on black women with man issues, and using Madea(or however you spell it) as a mammy character, is besides me. I can sit around and say that he made a fortune, so I can't hate, but do you use that excuse for other people who do way worse? Big oil tycoon dumps massive amounts of oil into the sea? "Can't hate because he makes money"

People say keep it real, I'm keeping it real, he's terrible and thinks he's doing something of a confidence boost for blacks by pushing the same old tired stereotypes, and again with the same old tired plot.

@year of the dragon
Yes, I also wish he would. He's so obvious.

THIS.
who?

It just depends. Considering that I know too many black folks who begin to foam at the mouth over a person of color being gay, I don't know if this is something he would do...:P
