AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

afropunk 2013

I know that this is pop culture but I was curious if anyone read Twilight (or any book in the series) by Stephenie Meyer. If so, what did you think? Did it live up to the hype?

Twillight = LOLOLOLOLOLOL

That was up there with one of the dumbest movie I've ever seen. Despite all the terribly bad acting, I was bothered by the whole "I've been 17 forever and am still in high school." You would think after all that time their intellect would dictate that they'd get tired of being around a bunch of high school numbskulls. And then the pedophilia - some 16 year old and a 100 year old vampire who looks 17. Ewww ... Where is the appeal? The gilr Bella is supposed to be smart but she sure is dumb. How is she "the one" for him? Last, the whole "I'm a female and so I must be protected." It was disgusting. She totally could not handle herself.

I've not read the books. I can understand the "appeal", but still, this whole "Twillight" thing seems very pathetic. Maybe its because I spent my tween and teen years with Buffy and Charmed - supernatural genre chicks who were not pathetic, whiny, "must be protected" wimps.

Such an awful movie: "You're my heroin [I want to snort you]!" "I am your masochistic, lion" *gaze and cue the cheesy special effects*
are those actual quotes from the film...because if it is i may sneak in b/c it sounds like one of those so bad it's good movies. haha
Lesy, those are actual quotes! My younger sister and her friends added the "I want to snort you part" (screamed i tout to the theater actually followed by me yelling "I need to learn to act") because the whole "you are my heroin" line was so ridiculously done in a part that was supposed to be "romantic". The writers need to be smacked. And oh, there are MANY moments like that in this film. Yes, go see it Lesy, especially if you are willing to be rude and ignorant like I was. Don't worry, the audience eventually joins in with you on dissing the film once they realize it's not because you're rude but because the film is a nonsensical dud - poorly written and poorly acted. This sort of movie would have done great on MST 3000.

Cue to the girl's mom: "You fell down some flights of stairs honey ..." Our protagonist is only able to slightly screw up her face, the same damn face she has throughout the entire movie, to show concern at the story the vampires gave the hospital about her condition - broken leg, glass and a bite mark on the wrist. "... And then through a window ..." Cue to me in the theater loudly bawling my head off because with each utterance of her mother, they show a reenactment of her falling down stairs, and then through a window. "[ ... And the bite mark on your arm we can only assume you were attacked by a wild dog]" because they never explain where the bite mark came from in the movie. What, do they think her vamp boyfriend did it? I was sorely disappointed when they did not show her being attacked by wild dogs to explain her bite mark immediately after showing her falling out of a window. I swear if they did that I would have had a heart attack from laughing so hard. Still was laughing very hard regardless. Laughing now just remembering it.

My god Lesy, you will die from the foul smelling cheese of this film
Is it any good? The back book description reminded me too much of the series Buffy so I never read it. And Buffy isn't the only Vampire Slayer. There's been all types of Slayers throughout the Buffy-verse from many different countries. The first Slayer was even an African woman.

That's why I didn't really read my copy of the book. I liked the art that was featured on the front however.

well, there's a black vampire/paranormal series... The Vampire Huntress Legend series by L A Banks (black woman author w/ a black female protagonist for the series). i haven't read any of the books, i just remember seeing her interviewed for a True Blood promo on vampires in history/media.

LOL! Fuck slayers

Underworld is better my man. Esp. Michael Corvin vampire/werewolf hybrid.

I shouldn't give a fart, but damn...

Just caught the end of Entertainment Tonight and I saw how the Twilight duo, Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattison, broke up.  This is stuff I really couldn't care less about but they detailed how Kristen, this young girl was avoiding papparazzi driving around and then went into the woods to get with her jump-off dude.  But the 'razzi followed them and took shots of them and then her and Rob split when found out.

My thing is that yeah these young folks are crazy rich & famous but I wouldn't trade to be their shoes for triple their paychecks.  Can you imagine having all your indiscretions and mistakes you made in 20's broadcast to the world?  That's not cool.  I almost feel sorry for those two...

At the same time, paparazzi gotta eat too.  Five to six figures for a pic?  Shiiit, I'd probably hide in the bushes with a telephoto lens for that kinda $$$, ha.

I'm a vampire fan and might read the series. I'm more into the traditional vampire thing not the sparkly. But I may go see it with my boyfriend or something. He really wants to see it.
