Was Jimi murdered?
You think this is possible? Maybe some of my AP'ers with medical training can chime in on this.

Jimi Hendrix was murdered by his manager, according to a new book by a former roadie. James "Tappy" Wright alleges that Hendix's manager, Michael Jeffrey, once drunkenly confessed to killing the guitarist by stuffing pills into his mouth and washing them down with several bottles of red wine.
Jeffrey -- who stood to collect $2 million as a beneficiary on Hendrix's life insurance policy -- feared Hendrix was planning to fire him in favor of a new handler, according to a report about the book, titled 'Rock Roadie', as reported in Mail on Sunday. Wright claims Jeffrey -- who died in a plane crash in 1973 -- told him in 1971 that Hendrix was "worth more to him dead than alive."
Hendrix died in September 1970. An ambulance crew found the 27-year-old musician's body at London's Samarkand Hotel, in the room of an acquaintance named Monika Dannemann. His cause of death was listed as barbiturate intoxication and inhalation of vomit.
Wright writes that Jeffrey confessed, "I was in London the night of Jimi's death and together with some old friends ... we went round to Monika's hotel room, got a handful of pills and stuffed them into his mouth ... then poured a few bottles of red wine deep into his windpipe ... That son of a bitch was going to leave me. If I lost him, I'd lose everything."

I just think the fixation on Jimi is a little lopsided. Totally not what a black rocker should aspire to be. Not a good mold and I'm not just talking about the dying young either. Just not my kind of champion.

A lot of people in general are still interested in Hendrix because he died so soon and had an incredible body of work in that short time. If he was still touring but really phoning it in on his recordings ala the Rolling Stones, there wouldn't be so much interest.
Regardless of what you think about the man, you really have to give him much respect as a musical innovator and a technician.

I always felt that ppl here talk about Bad Brains way more than they do Jimi. Nothing wrong with either. They're all incredible musicians who inspired many ppl to think outside the box.

Yeah, I thought Jimi was a saint.
Until I read stories about him beating women with phones and throwing them down flights of stairs.

But as far as the question being asked with this thread is concerned......this story has been circulating around for many years. i always heard that his manager was a dirty motherfucker who was about to get fired, and he knew that Jimi would be worth more dead than alive, so he did the dirty deed listed above with the barbs and wine. The other story is that the ambulance attendant was simply incompetent and had Jimi laying on his back while he was choling on his vomit, but i never bought that one.

i personally stopped putting people (especially musicians) on pedestals a very, very, very, very long time ago. In my mind, i don't paint rosey and idealistic portraits of absolutely anybody, dead, living or in between, i just know that if we were to determine whose contributions (musical or otherwise) we're gonna value and recognize based solely on the purity of their thoughts,words and deeds, then we would value and recognize absolutely nobody. And that's a fact.
Truly, it is only a matter of degrees of foulness one has done, and the extent to which one's foul deeds are known of, spoken of, and documented. Everybody has done some shit. Everybody. And if you think you haven't, you are either in denial, or you just ain't done it yet.

Good question...I'm just stunned now. I never knew that about Bob Marley. Arthur Lee, he kind of reminds me of Jelly Roll Morton (regarding pimping women that is).
