"Maggot Brain"
Band of Gypsies-Hendrix

I can't name specific albums, but stuff by architects like Little Richard, Fats Domino, and Bo Didley that illustrate Black folks' long history of involvement and innovation in the genre.
^^^in agreeance with Maggot Brain
Are You Experienced?-The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Bad Brains-Self Titled aka "the cassette"
Don't forget Chuck Berry. I'd even go as far as saying a simple Best of his should be added to the list.

I'd chime in with the others on Bad Brains from the ROIR cassette stuff but also the album that has Justice Keepers on it on cd cause that album is TIGHT. Also the first several Fishbone albums, as well as "Maggot Brain" by Funkadelic/Parliament, and Jimi Hendrix's albums for sure. And I'd make them go see The Roots LIVE ON STAGE, because after seeing them 6 times in the past 8 years......I LOOOOOVE how they throw into their live numbers a LOT of GREAT improvisational HARD ROCKIN' guitar bites and melodies into their performances, and this is something that is not on any of their albums, that truly TRULY proves their greatness and creativity as black artists. They make it great and they make all that music that has touched them and influenced them and that sounds good to them, they make it their OWN when they play their instruments and vocals LIVE. SEriously good!!
