What do you know about Virginia?

So I've been living in Austin, TX for 3 years and there is alot about the lifestyle and cost of living to fall in love with here but I miss a certain soul and sense of educated (self- or otherwise) black consciousness that finds support and thrives alongside the progressive majority sense of consciousness that exists in a bike-friendly, organic/local-oriented, active, artistic city like Austin. I am also refusing to experience another triple digit degree summer in Texas. I am brainstorming where July 2013 will and considering the West Coast and the beach culture of Oakland, CA or the sustainable and puff-friendly towns of Colorado. But being a Georgia native, I am reconsidering the East Coast which provides for more diverse climates across tighter spaces. Anyone have any recommendations on cities to relocate to to satisfy this wanderlust? Appreciate it FB!
