AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

afropunk 2013

I watch TV One and I keep wondering what happened to the black tv shows? The Martins, Living Single, and Moesha's of the world. For whatever reason everytime I watch them I have this nostalgic feeling. Does anybody have a favorite black show from the 90's?

I agree with your assessment, there's barely any good quality tv shows across the board these days...Most of them lack the creativity, originality and finesse that the old school shows had.

I do miss living single though...that show was the bomb!

A lot of the good "white" shows suck too, Hidaya. I don't think it's a lack of good Black oriented shows, I think it's a lack of good ANYBODY'S shows. Gotten too predictable and copycat and boring and manufactured and pre packaged, and that's including the actual actors/actresses/storylines. There is some cool stuff out there but you gotta look for it. I think there are better shows on the cable networks too.

I used to really enjoy Living Single and The Martins but I also liked Night Court and Fraser even more. Good writing, good stories, great actors and actresses. Hidaya, have you seen No 1 Ladies Detective Agency? Awesome! See, it's on a cable station, that's my point, they seem to have more pull of creative stories and qualified talent to pull from too.
LIVING SINGLE! Classic. Great writing (when the credits are, um, of writers of color) and ensemble acting.
This was the REAL friends. Then tragedy happened for QLatifa and it ended too, too soon.
