AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

I've been a phone actress for the past 5 years now. That's right, I'm a phone ho. I'm not ashamed of this at all. It pays the bills and supports my family. Before I did this I was on welfare and lived in a very rundown place. It was enough to get me out of the situation I was in. Therefore I take a lot of pride in what I do.

I can't stand it when people look at me differently because of my occupation. They assume I'm a slut or I have no self respect because I talk shit on the phone for a living. The irony is that most of the people who talk shit are females that lay on their backs for a different dude every other day and get nothing out of it except a wet ass and a bad reputation. I have even gotten a few negative comments from men. One time this asshole I used to kick it with got one of his little punk ass homeboys to call my house at 4 in the morning to say, "Hey. My dick hard. Talk to me so I can bust this nut." Friends of my ex have told me, "You know your job pisses him (my baby's father) off. Why can't you just work at a store or something instead of talking to guys on the phone all night? You are a mom. Do something else."

Here's the deal people. There is a stigma associated with people with jobs like mine. I think the fact that I'm a single mom makes it even more intense. Why is it that people think you are a whore with no morals if you work in the sex industry?

I know you have some interesting stories from your job. Please tell :-).
It's sad that they didn't see the fact you got off of welfare.
You do your thang.
People always got to pigeonhole womyn. Urggggh. That urks me.
Because they're gutless, vindictive and spiteful. The issue is sex worker'r rights, but no one likes to acknowledge the obvious.
They just sound like a group of small minded bastards!
"lay on their backs for a different dude every other day and get nothing out of it except a wet ass and a bad reputation. "

I HATE that shit! I hate those really stupid bitches that try to judge a woman who uses what she's got or knows to better herself when all they're getting is a "deposit" and not in their bank account. They're being robbed of their power and don't even know it.

"Why is it that people think you are a whore with no morals if you work in the sex industry?"

A whole lot of stupid/mindless reasons. Men are the only ones who can have power or control over sex. And whenever people hear/see a woman with sex they'll always try to stone you. It's always more intense on single moms, especially minorities. Society is puritanical despite exalting video hoes, porn stars and sometimes strippers into high places just because of what they do for men. But if anyone else wants to do it, they try and decapitate you.

There's a lot of sites around for sex worker's to discuss rights and stigma. I think it's just back talking, double biting sexism in action, period. We only supposed to get used, get nothing out of it and like it. If we use the system that tries to reduce us to pussy we get talked about/dehumanized called stupid, called a slut etc.,

People have accepted murder and violence as a fact of life but sex is not quite the same kind of fact. Strange.
I used to do that too for about 3 years. I didn't disclose to everyone I met, cause not everyone needed to know. But it is a conversation starter. I started to feel like I was getting the (worst) part of men after a while, and it started affecting how I related to them in real life. I didn't think much of them when I did that for work. But if you are good, it does give you the edge when you are in a relationship. I prefer talking shit to my man rather than total strangers. But do you gf. Not everyone needs to know what you do for work. You can pretty much tell who can handle it and who cant. But unfortunately sex work is sex work to many people, and there is no 'well at least Im not doing..... factor in many peoples eyes. That's just the reality of the biz. If there wasn't a demand for it then it wouldn't exist. People are always going to blame the woman.
I say do your thing. You will NEVER be able to please people. As long as you don't have problems with what you do and it pays the bills keep it moving sis. People have stigmas attached to everything. I would'nt trip off what people say. If someone loves you they will accept what you do because you accept it. They don't have to like it, but you're grown and take care of yours. Period.
LOL! What would you like to hear, my dear?

Because their stupid and there is a double standard in terms of sexuality when it comes to women. Its 2010 and we're still dealing with this virgin vs. slut dichotomy and there is no grey area. Sex work is work, your job does not define you it is something you do whether its a job or career that pays the bills. More respect to you and dont let other people try to make you feel less than because their insecure.
Come on just whatever weird ass thing people ask for.
Do they ever ask you to say something weird?
Do they ever want you to RP something freaky?

How does that even work? Do you just call and press 2 for ___ voice?
